There are a variety of things to update you about.
First, I've authorized an increase of memory on TMP's server. That will increase our monthly costs, but should improve the situation regarding slow-downs and time outs.
I'm also continuing to work on the 'garbage collection' systems for the forums, trying to remedy our remaining forum bugs.
Second, I mentioned previously that TMP is unusually short of staff right now, even considering the part-time status of the staff editors.
Editor Gwen is on bereavement leave. She has asked me to tell you that her older brother was killed about a week ago. He was gunned down by police in a case of mistaken identity, they claimed he was a "bigtime shabu dealer" (shabu is Asian slang for meth), but bigtime drug dealers don't live in poverty. There is a major problem with corrupt police in the Philippines, as you may have heard.
Editor Julia is recovering from a motorcycle accident with a stray dog. (Yes, there are also a lot of stray dogs in the Philippines.) Her injuries are painful, including some deep abrasions on her feet, but hopefully she will recover soon.
Meanwhile, Editor Hebber is having problems with her internet service – randomly, she'll lose the ability to connect with some particular website, but other websites will be fine. This is forcing her to work odd hours when the internet service finally lets her connect to whatever website she needs to perform her job (such as TMP, but also advertisers' websites). She is trying to get her internet service to fix the problem.
Editor Dianna is now working an extra job, so her work availability may be affected.
I'm relatively fine. However, my sister-in-law in the Philippines has suffered another stroke, so we are quite worried about her.
