Came across this on the youtubes.

I have a soft spot for Russian cinema, but I haven't watched this one yet.

Might watch it tomorrow so if anyone wants to watch along, we can chat about it.
Might not be a "war" movie as such, as much as a character story but I glanced some winged hussars in there at least :)

it is a meh film.

Weasel17 Feb 2017 4:59 a.m. PST

Ah okay, that's too bad.

Worth it for any battles?

KTravlos17 Feb 2017 5:31 a.m. PST

It has a historical siege which is the set piece, and that is not too bad, and done with the usual Russian attention to detail, but I was not too happy. They completely ruin the Battle of Moscow which should had been the set piece.

The main problem is that the film was produced by the Putin administration only for propaganda reasons, as part of the new national holiday National Unity Day. So the main goal of the theme tends to overwhelm what could had been a much better story.

Ah okay.
So look at the sights but be wary of the jingoism?

I enjoyed it. How many movies are there with winged hussars?

Lots of boobies

Saw this but wasn't sure, so might be next now.

Finished it this morning, disappointed not as historical as I like, but very worth watching the period armaments. Russians do seem to try toget the details right. Does venture into the supernatural and has a feal more as a role playing game. They do have good special effects of bodies dismembered by artillery rather than the high explosive cannon fire we often see.

Appreciate the feedback 14Bore.
As an RPG'er, I guess that's not a bad thing but good warning for people wanting a hard historical drama.
