Before I invest I'd like to get a consensus on who makes the best figures in 15mm for this conflict.
TIA

I think the Eureka ones are a bit late for 1980s.

Afghans haven't changed much in centuries. We have some 'modern' ones: link

I would agree that the Flytrap Factory Taliban are awesome. Here are some closeups:

For Soviets, I'd imagine Battlefront are probably the best in helmet, not sure if there are 15mm Soviets in their campaign covers.

Dennis0302:

Khurasan make the best Soviet Infantry and they are reasonably priced. Khurasan Soviet vehicles are excellent but quite expensive. Armies Army makes excellent Soviet Airborne infantry and vehicles. QRF make good infantry and very good vehicles and have the widest range of products for all Cold War states and periods. Also check out Old Glory for Cold War Soviet kit. Flytrap Factory Taliban are great for Cold War Afghan-Soviet conflicts as well as post Cold War conflicts as Just Jack has said. Flashpoint Miniatures make excellent Arab and African foes and with Peter Pig and Irishserb vehicles you can't go wrong. Peter Pigs AK-47 line is worth checking out too if you want to game Cold War Africa.

There is no shortage of great products available so it really boils down to your own tastes and price range.

Team Yankee (Battlefront), Zvezda and Platic Soldier Company are worth checking out if you like plastic kits.

Cheers and good gaming.
Rod Robertson.

Old Glory 25's has Afghan irregulars with AK-47s RPK's bolt action rifles etc. Command figures with RPG's 81mm mortars, its too bad they don't have stinger missiles.
