Clearly we are speaking of Ebor limited production for amateur…. nothing for common people that look at the site…..

RogerC13 Feb 2017 1:07 p.m. PST

Ha, yes Dino, these are Ebor, they are available but not on the site yet. I have another unit of these to paint up soon. Grey faced yellow with grey leggings.

Very nice work.

Since you mentioned the grey, early war uniforms, can I hijack the thread very slightly and ask if anyone knows in which year (roughly) the Swedes abandoned the "informal" tricorne for the "regular" one on these figures?

Travellera14 Feb 2017 11:53 a.m. PST

Regarding the tricorne….the Swedish infantry used both the informal tricorne and the karpus until the turn of the century. While the karpus remained in use almost until the end of the GNW, the hat shifted gradually to the "regular" one. It is not possible to point out a specific year but by the time of Poltava, the karpus and the regular tricorne should be dominating. All according to the excellent website by Högman:

Honestly not sure, all the sources I have read have the Swedes going into the War in tricornes except the Drabants who started off with informal tricorne with oen side turned up until slightly later.

Travellera14 Feb 2017 12:51 p.m. PST

I just checked the big Army work on Swedish uniforms "Dräkt och uniform" which supports Högmans statements. Which sources do you have that argue differently?

Supercilius Maximus15 Feb 2017 2:41 a.m. PST

Thank you, Travellera – excellent link.

Travellera, apologies if I don't have all the detail, I am not trying to get into an academic debate. I am building an army for the first half of the war where the troops for the most part had Tricorne or Karpus. My main source has been the tacitus web site. This does give the Drabant an informal tricore later than other units. That said even if I was doing Drabants I would do them with Tricorne as it covers a longer period.

Very pretty, and a nice change from the sea of blue and yellow that is the usual Swedish force!

RogerC16 Feb 2017 9:02 a.m. PST

Cheers Martin, still a few more battalions to do, including a grey faced yellow unit on the way.
