I make no claim of being much of a scratch builder but I thought I'd share some pics of the home made donga I just finished for a future game on Isandlwana. The base is .030mm white Plastruct plastic sheet cut into shapes freehand with an Exacto knife. The sides of the donga were made with Elmer's Woodfiller and a small spackle knife. After the donga sides were formed I poked in some lightweight model railroad ballast and sprinkled some fine clean sand over all.

I sprayed the pieces with Rustoleum Espresso (Satin) for the base coat.

And then drybrushed successive coats of Americana Mississippi Mud, Sable Brown, Ceramcoat Bambi Brown (in lieu of the equivalent Americana Mink Tan which I didn't have), Americana Flesh Tone and Titanium White.

The whole was then sprayed with Testors Dull Cote. The finished donga is here.

Some pieces of ballast came off during drybrushing but were easily replaced with Elmer's White Glue. I thought about adding some flock here and there but decided to leave it as it is for now.

Nicely done. I'd go with some "greenery" but of the dried variety. Water courses do attract plant life, after all. But looks fine as is.
