Finally completed the converted Minifig S range Turkish Standing firing unit and added a bugler for good measure.

Absolutely gorgeous figures. When I think "old school" , that is what it looks like!

Thanks Cavcrazy, glad you liked them.

Very nice. What type of varnish are you using ?

abc wargamers11 Feb 2017 11:18 a.m. PST

Once again many thanks, I am pleased that you liked them. Never sure what interest there is in the old s range.

Paul I am very lazy and take short cuts whenever I can so I spray my figures with PlastiKote clear gloss sealer. You can spray a unit in no time and it drys quickly. It's about the price of 2 tins of of varnish or less. I try to pick it up at one of the big discount stores as it can be even cheaper.

I have a very soft spot for Minifigs S Range. I can still remember the disappointment when I had finally saved up enough to buy a few metal figures from the Wargamers Den in Durham to find that the stock and display had been replaced by chunky big headed fat a**ed midgets.

The more I do with S Range the more I like them. Nicely sculpted, big variety of periods figures and equipment. Currently have HYW and FPW on the go; have recently more or less finished my Napoleon in Egypt armies; and have to get back to Jacobite Rebellion later this year.

Your conversions are great too: always good to see what you are up to

Thanks Vintage Wargamer. I know what you mean about the S range figures. There is something about the old style which just takes you back and yet on masse, they can look as good as many of the newer ranges.
I have admired your French in Egypt range. Working on my FPW figures as well. Look out for a future post on a FPW French standing firing dismounted dragoon conversion!

I've just got a bunch of figures which will just about complete my FPW units. I'll start on them at the end of the week

I admit it's probably just nostagia, but old 'S' Range and Garrison 20mm are virtually the only figures I get – plus some early PB. 'S' Range come up quite often on ebay and sell quite cheaply.
