Aztec vs Swiss A L'Art de la Guerre Battle Report In an alternate reality, the Aztecs and Inca's squashed the Conquistadors, expanded their empires, crushing the Mayans in their wake, and now maintain an uneasy truce at the what we know of as the Isthmus of Panama. The Spaniards, still feeling the lure of untold riches, and not seeing the obvious flaw in their plan, hires a Swiss mercenary company to conquer the heathen nations. link Enjoy |

Thanks Mike. The mountain is a re-purposed 4th grade project that my son made about the mountain, Las Minas, in Honduras. I have since repainted the balding areas, and will fluff up the clouds. |

Phil Another entertaining Report. Always good to read your accounts. I wonder if I could pick your brain for a moment. I have just posted a question on the TMP Rules Forum and thought I might ask you directly. Relates to the table on p20 and the description of Heavy Cavalry as "Same as Medium Cavalry + armour". Does this provide for both protection against shooting and in melee (as on p16)? We could not agree on the latter. We have just finished a hard fought Pyrrhic versus Camillan Roman game which ended with both sides breaking!! Pyrrhus and one of his generals died. As a fellow player I would welcome your view, will also put the question on the ADLG Forum. Cheers Garry |

Garry, Mounted forces and Infantry forces are handled slightly differently on that chart. The infantry forces, as listed, assume no extra armor, so the protection value against missile fire is what is stated. But if you pay extra points, you get + 1 for armor or +2 for heavy armor. For example, Heavy Spearmen has a normal protection value of +1 against missile fire. Heavy Spearmen + armor has a protection value of +2. With Mounted forces, the armor is already factored into the chart. So what is listed what it is. So the answer to your question, "Does this provide for both protection against shooting and in melee (as on p16)? the answer is yes. And thanks for you complements on my reports. I provides encouragement to write more. Phil |

Excellent report, pics & figs. But why didn't the Swiss just sneeze at them, then sit back and wait? |

Biological warfare takes too long. An 8 foot halberd is much quicker. |

Thanks Phil – despite reading the Rules quite often I overlook the occasional subtlety until a game comes along. Do keep them coming. Garry |

I have been on a tare lately. A number of double games. So there are 4 written up, and 3 more in the queue. Stay tuned. |

Good report, always, however, I feel rules make stone age armies as good as European ones. Small units of Spanish and Portugese – admittedly often with native allies, were a very hard opponent for huge native armies historically. Still, it would make for a difficult game! |

The rules do, as you say,"make stone age armies as good as European ones". They ignore metallurgy changes of bronze to iron to steel. Early handguns are counted the same as crossbows. This is necessary so that when someone commits themselves to 40-80 hours to paint up an army, that it is viable on the table. |

I am currently sipping tequila and lime juice on the Mayan Riviera, imagining this battle taking place not too far away… |
