This might be a tall order but any one or two book recommendations specifically for the military aspects of the 30 years wars?

Ideally something that both covers basic tactics, equipment and the various battles?

I guess what I am after is a thirty years equivalent to the Napoleonic sourcebook or some such.

Waiting for Daniel S to finish his book,

I have found nothing better than "European Weapons and Warfare 1618-1648 by Eduard Wagner" Octopus Books, ISBN: 0 7064 1072 6 Printed in 1979. Every page is illustrated in color showing things from how they fought with swords, polearms, how they moved cannon up steep cliffs, fortifications, sieges, etc. Cavalry and infantry formations are especially well done in graphic descriptions and explainations of tercios and infany formations as well. Laced with useful snippets of famous people as well.

Hope you can find a copy. IIRC, it was recently reprinted and in the discount bins of Barnes and Nobel (about 2 years ago?

Ivan. Do you have a set of rules in mind?

That sounds fantastically like what I am looking for. Thanks!

Tom. To write or to play?

No to the former but I'd like to some day.
For the latter, probably just going to mess with the rules from Warlord games a bit.

Decent prices IMHO! If you are (or want to be) into the period, this will keep you coming back to it time after time. I have a HC version I got in a trade years ago. Nothing wrong with a SC edition as it should be way cheaper.

The original hardcover seems to go for well over a hundred bucks, so the softcover it is. Very cool.

Thanks, Ivan. It's a period I would like to do one day, but a rehash of ECW just doesn't seem do the period justice. Let me know if you find anything more centralized on the continent.

(P.S. Let me know what you think about this book if you get your hands on a copy.)

I'll give you a shout for sure.

Weasel, the Wagner book was recently reprinted by Warlord Games and should be available from them. Soft back of course.

I love how someone is selling a paperback copy in acceptable condition for $5,399.00 USD and still asking for $3.99 USD postage

Internet shopping--"it's like a box of chocolates".
