Hey guys, I've been painting up some 10mm old glory ACW figs and decided sometime soon i wanted to get into napoleonics. (its really where i should have started as i am much more passionate about it) I would love to do 28mm because some of the plastics look amazing but i'm afraid i just don't have the room to field respectable armies, so i have been looking at 15mm. I don't really know much about 15mm minis and was hoping to get some grognards opinions on places to look.

AB are the best. I like Blue Moon for their good quality at a reasonable price.

Stick with Old Glory or their newer brand Blue Moon. Both match up nicely and are beautiful figures – at the right price!

14Bore05 Feb 2017 5:39 p.m. PST

Liking Blue Moons, need more and will probably finish my Russian army with them

Oh Bugger05 Feb 2017 5:51 p.m. PST

Old Glory and Blue Moon are good and match each other in size and are reasonably priced.

AB are very good but are bigger and cost more.

Xan are fantastic but don't cover much of the period as yet.

Campaign Group are very nice too but focused around Waterloo.

Fantassin is a nice range, if somewhat variable, and fits with AB but costs less.

My Spanish army is Old Glory and Fantassin. My French one is Old Glory, Campaign Group, Xan and Fantassin. They work well enough together in terms of figure size.

I've poked around on the bluemoon page on the old glory site and i couldn't find any old guard or grenadier figures for the french. All i could find is the grenadier flank companies.

Oh Bugger05 Feb 2017 6:37 p.m. PST

Code FOG 1A for the Old Guard.

Several of Corps later, I'm sticking with Old Glory. Some of the best animated figures for the price since the 90's

MikeyMike05 Feb 2017 7:01 p.m. PST

i like the price of the old glory 15s but i don't know what the sculpts look like. Also do you really have to buy an entire bag of 50 command? i definitely like how you can get small bag of em with bluemoon.

Robert Kapa05 Feb 2017 7:40 p.m. PST

AB are the best and compromise size with quality of detail. If you like 28 but don't have the space (like me), AB is the way to go. I also like the now called Captain (former war modeling) and Xan. Blue moon has some good casting (such as the French infantry) but the quality is inconsistent. I started 20y ago with Old Glory. I like some animated poses but some castings are a blob. The other thing I cannot forgive to Old Glory is to not have pictures of the poses included. What exactly you get in the bag is a mistery. Essex are finely sculpted but on the low size. Price might be a factor. AB is cheaper in the States than U.K. Also, if you buy a large lot you get 20% off. Last not least you can buy the figures individually (in the States at least) which means you buy exactly what you need without leftovers. My $ 0.02

MikeyMike05 Feb 2017 8:00 p.m. PST

Wow! Just looked up the AB figures and if they really look that detailed I think i'm sold. That and the ability to buy by figure is actually very convenient for me as i will only be buying and painting a battalion at a time. Is Eureka Miniatures where you get them in the US?

Robert Kapa05 Feb 2017 8:24 p.m. PST

Yes, Robert will take care of your order. He is super fast.

The Capitan mix very well with Ab for added variety. I sell them here in the US at ScaleCreep.com

And my side by side pages of Napoleonics are a bit dated but still useful:

@Mike

No question in my mind, AB are the best if you can afford them. Scan the Napoleonic gallery and you will see some wonderful examples. With AB, it's as much about consistency over the range as anything else. There don't seem to be any mistakes or shortcuts taken.

I have also hit Mr Crispy up for Capitan figures and they are very nice too, Spanish are excellent.

AB stands for Anthony Barton who designs and sculpts the figures. Eureka Miniatures is the sole agent for Mr. Barton.

That is their main website but it looks like eureka miniatures is there distributor n the US.

You'll never regret going with AB. They are often mistaken for 28mm, such is the detail and realism. You'll never find odd blobs of metal in a bag and wonder what it is and how you can use it. Yes they cost a bit more but you only pay for them once and the biggest cost is the investment in painting time. Once they're done you'll have them forever.

Price might be a factor. AB is cheaper in the States than U.K.

Actually, the ex-VAT price in the UK is currently equivalent to the price in the USA, even given the effects of Agent Orange or Mrs Mayday! Mayday! on the exchange rate.

Just realised I mean't to say that "AB's are often mistaken IN PHOTOS for 28mm" – important.

repaint06 Feb 2017 3:29 a.m. PST

Campaign games in Europe has nice figures, AB miniatures being undeniably the king of all.
Captan is ok. I need to try Xan but the range is limited. Don't know about Blue Moon, probably below Xan but certainly worth a try.

My to go is AB but I am kind of tired of painting always the same figures for a given army, so changes are most welcome.

And when something you need still missing in AB magnificent lines, then you may check my humble handcraft..

AB, Blue Moon and OG. All can be had next month at Cold Wars. And if you contact Eureka Miniatures USA with your desires they can package the AB you want. Blue Moon and OG are there as well.

Hafen von Schlockenberg06 Feb 2017 6:59 a.m. PST

One question: are you dissatisfied with your OG ACW? Why aren't you considering the Napoleonics in that scale?

Oops, that was two questions. I ask because I'm thinking of getting some myself.

Puddinhead Johnson06 Feb 2017 8:32 a.m. PST

Nobody mentioned Battle Honors. They are slighter than AB or Blue Moon, but I like them a lot.

One of the fun things about an international forum is the references like this. What does it mean?

War In 15MM06 Feb 2017 5:52 p.m. PST

If I was doing my Napoleonics today I would probably use Blue Moon as the bulk of my collection and supplement it with Old Glory and AB and whatever else offered interesting items not available with Blue Moon. When I did my collection, more than 15 years ago I used Old Glory 15s for the majority of the collection and supplement that with Battle Honours and Essex and a few Minifies. You can see mine collection (1809 French v Austrians) in a diorama style layout at link

@Hafen von Schlockenberg, No i love my 10mm ACW OGs. Not only are they nicley detailed but they look absolutely stunning in massed ranks. I just want to try something new and if i wanna paint a uniform with historical accuracy in mind i would rather do it on a slightly larger and more detailed figure. Honestly i'm just curious about a new scale. I just ordered a 32 man battalion of AB old guard to start me off but if the scale isn't to my liking i may actually go baccus 6mm for napoleonics. I watched a video on youtube of 6mm SYW collection and he based em right with 3 ranks deep and like 8 bases per battalion. The result was incredible. His army sizes were probably 2:1
