I have a number of sources for regimental strengths, guns, etc for Gettysburg. I'm revising an old Carnage & Glory OOB and hoping only to do it once. So I'm wondering about opinions of best source. I found this online - link I also have looked at Trudeau's book which has detailed numbers, and claims to use multiple sources. Any other thoughts? |

If you go to boardgamegeek.com and search for a game called "Terrible Swift Sword" by SPI, they may have some photos of the countersheets. It had regimental counters with strengths based on one strength point = 100 men. |

Thanks I have MMPs Last Chance Victory and have referenced that for Morale and Weaponry. It has similar 100/man SPs. Since C&G has individual manpower, I'm looking for as exact as is out there. |

"Numbers and Losses at Gettysburg" by Livermore, and "Brigades at Gettysburg" by Gottfried are excellent references for what you're looking for in your OOB. |

I do know that the strengths of Maine units involved were taken from the 30 June 1863 consolidated monthly reports. When my old gaming club built our armies, we used the Gettysburg strengths. We took these from both AAR's of regiments and brigades, as well as combing through the OR's. We had (have) all128 volumes of them. Spent many an hour going through stuff to gain those numbers, since there was no internet, no digital sources, etc. Lots and lots of time spent with dusty books. |

If you need Maine strengths, either shoot me a PM or find a copy of "Maine at Gettysburg". I have a copy and a couple free days next week. V/R |

Busey and Martin, Regimental Strengths and Losses at Gettysburg. Definitive. |

Yes, absolutely Busey and Martin, Regimental Strengths and Losses at Gettysburg. THE source. You can also get my Gettysburg scenario book, which breaks down the OOB for various figure ratios common to many popular rules systems. Most of it was taken from Busey and Martin. link |

I agree with age of glory and Cleburne 1863, Busey and Martin's "Regimental Strengths and Losses at Gettysburg" is considered the guide by Historians. It goes through the Methodology in determining the numbers and is comprehensive for every regiment and battery on both sides. It needs to be on every Gettysburg student's bookshelf right alongside Coddington. |

Absolutely. Busey and Martin is amazing, comprehensive, and clear as to how it's figures have been arrived at. A fantastic resource. Mollinary |

How does the Gettysburg Companion measure up? Edit: Busey/Martin is in the bibliography so I guess that is where the OB numbers come from. |

Gettysburg Companion uses Busey and Martin as their reference so it is a good source. The layout might make it more "user friendly" for putting together on order of battle, especially for the artillery. For detail, the original source though is a must. Kim |
