Hi All
First post so be gentle.
Have done some research on the above and in my favorite goto book (ANDRE JOUINEAU Histoire & Collections), the Shako is a slightly lighter green than the dolman etc. In most others internet, osprey and several books the green is all the same.
I know weathering, different manufactures can change the colour especially on campaign etc etc.
BUT was the shako rouleau a significantly lighter green?
Thanks Darren

I think you will not find a definite answer. So go as you feel ;)

The Colonel is correct. Officialy the colour was the same, but the different material, the inconsistency of contemporary dyes and the different rates of weathering (no cover for a rouleau probably) would give some variations. Go with what looks best.

That look is obviously heavily influenced by Marbot's outfit as at la Musee de l'Armee.

I'll post a copy tonight…often shown here. Note that his shako was not quite so "Rouleau"…ie cylindrical. That became de riguere, even for infantry, after Second Restoration….I remain doubtful if as common in Hundred Days as later illustrators suggest.

The lighter green looks more dramatic

I think artistic license is the form here. After all they are your figures. I give my Prussian Landwehr and reserve infantry flags, when they "officially" didn't carry any.

Agree totally, but I am sure you have seen this from la Musee de l'Armee en Paris;

I will bet this has much to do with the lighter green shako. But look at the Dolmann and Pelisse! They are dark blue, in any images on line. In reality, there is still a greenish tinge even after 200 years. Especially where UV light has not penetrated. Look at the golden ornamentation on the shako…..

Time destroys colour pigments. UV light is merciless…..
