As an experiment to encourage people to share scenarios, we've had Scenario boards in all the interest categories since 2012. That is, Ancients Scenarios, WWII Scenarios, SF Scenarios, etc.

The boards haven't been used much.

Should we retire those boards, and put their topics back into the Discussion boards?

War Monkey26 Jan 2017 10:27 p.m. PST

In my opinion "NO" I look all the time for something new to try out sure it's lacking but things could pick up.

vagamer63 Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 11:04 p.m. PST

No, leave them as is!

Mako1126 Jan 2017 11:18 p.m. PST

I'd prefer they not be deleted.

Perhaps we need to encourage people to post on them, or use them more.

Bashytubits26 Jan 2017 11:24 p.m. PST

No, leave the board, please.

mghFond26 Jan 2017 11:25 p.m. PST

I look at them often enough.

KTravlos27 Jan 2017 2:39 a.m. PST

No. I post most of my scenarios on them. It is easy to look scenarios up in the scenario boards.

My view is the periodisation is wrong. Unifty 1815-1899 and 1899-1914 and you will see a lot of scenarios posted for that era, not just by me.

Todd McLeister27 Jan 2017 2:44 a.m. PST

Fold them back into the Discussion boards where they belong. They might see more action there?

DestoFante27 Jan 2017 2:46 a.m. PST

Could you merge with the corresponding "discussion" boards, save the posts and drop the scenario boards?

SJDonovan27 Jan 2017 3:18 a.m. PST

I think you could merge all of the sub-boards (Painting Guide, Gallery, Product Reviews, Battle Reports etc) back into the relevant discussion boards and it would make the site feel far less fragmented.

Winston Smith27 Jan 2017 3:33 a.m. PST

No

Winston Smith27 Jan 2017 3:36 a.m. PST

You go out of your way to make countless new boards (Rules Forum?) that nobody reads and everyone turns off. Now you want to drop boards that people actually use. Does that make sense?

SJDonovan27 Jan 2017 4:07 a.m. PST

Or you could just merge Scenarios and Battle Reports since they amount to the same thing.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian27 Jan 2017 5:34 a.m. PST

There are more important things to worry about such as fixing the bugs that are effecting TMP right now

Please don't tell me how to do my job. grin

Gnu200027 Jan 2017 5:36 a.m. PST

I agree with merging Battle Reports and Scenarios.

gunnerphil27 Jan 2017 6:05 a.m. PST

Is there a scenario board?

sjwalker3827 Jan 2017 6:14 a.m. PST

Merging battle reports and scenarios MIGHT be sensible, but there's probably dozens of less-well used or relevant boards that might be removed first – if re-arranging the boards is really a priority right now.

SJDonavan's idea sounds good to me.

Winston Smith27 Jan 2017 7:49 a.m. PST

Scenarios are not discussion. Those are two different things entirely.

Scenarios don't age, so the frequency of posting on these boards is not a relevant metric to apply to them.

Weasel27 Jan 2017 9:34 a.m. PST

I'd agree with combining scenario and batrep boards.

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP27 Jan 2017 3:58 p.m. PST

To me, Scenarios are a part of most of the games I play, so I too would think they would be better in Battle Reports.

I find the Battle Reports and Scenario boards to be redundant; I think they could easily be merged.

I would like to see the scenario boards folded back into the regular discussion boards for each genre.

In general, I feel that having many small boards decreases the usability of the website. Particularly so when there isn't a feature to show recent posts within a certain genre, or to show replies to posts to which you have contributed. As it is, the site makes it difficult to maintain any type of ongoing conversation – you have to remember where you posted, and then navigate down into that little corner of the website to see if anyone replied to you.

Guthroth01 Feb 2017 1:33 p.m. PST

I'd like to see them folded into the Battle Reports boards.

Fold/merge BatRep and Scenario, since both describe the plot, goals, and actions: it's just that the BatRep posts have all the things that weren't anticipated.

Bill Slavin05 Feb 2017 7:46 a.m. PST

I like the idea of folding into the BatRep board. I don't frequent the scenario board but am very interested in what people are creating and sharing.

tkdguy05 Feb 2017 10:07 p.m. PST

I read the Scenarios boards often, so I say no.

Tom D106 Feb 2017 9:07 a.m. PST

At the most, merge Battle and Scenario. Otherwise leave it alone.

GGouveia09 Feb 2017 1:41 p.m. PST

How about eliminate this discussion? It's annoying that it's in every section.

SgtGuinness09 Mar 2017 8:52 a.m. PST

I vote to keep the scenario pages. It's a great resource. Just because they are not added to frequently doesn't mean they aren't utilized or appreciated.
Cheers,
JB

War Panda09 Mar 2017 10:00 a.m. PST

Glad you brought it up Bill as I was aware of their existence. But now that you've brought them to my attention hopefully they wouldn't be axed

Poniatowski10 Mar 2017 5:51 a.m. PST

Please don't…. they are an awesome resource!

138SquadronRAF14 Mar 2017 11:14 a.m. PST

I'd prefer them to remain and independent of Battle Reports.

docfin21 Mar 2017 7:42 a.m. PST

I find them mostly a waste of time. most of the posts just end up as battle reports with little reference as to rules used how armies are organised and a map which is fine for an AAR. But not if you want to try it for yourself if your kind enough to post a scenario in the scenario board then please at least make it usable.

Old Contemptibles28 Mar 2017 12:47 p.m. PST

You do need to trim some boards but I would keep the scenario boards. I am also disappointed in them because they rarely have scenarios on them.

There are plenty of AARs on it. But that doesn't help much. This should be for the exchanging of written "turn key" scenarios. Special rules, maps and order of battles. But you just don't see those much. I shouldn't talk because I only posted one complete scenario.

Some incentives? Perhaps a free supporting membership with each scenario?

Posting complete scenarios can take up a tremendous amount of space. I wonder if TMP is the right format for doing this?

Old Contemptibles28 Mar 2017 12:53 p.m. PST

Could it be that most people use scenario books and they are worried about some authors copyright?

daler240D28 Mar 2017 3:10 p.m. PST

there are WAY too many boards.

+1 sjdonovan, merging with battle reports is a step in the right direction

Der Krieg Geist09 Apr 2017 7:33 a.m. PST

If I could venture a thought or two. When I look to the scenario boards, I am hoping to find a discussion of scenario creation. I would like to see the authors ideas, thoughts and inspirations for a scenario they created. Or alternatively, one could share an idea for a scenario and ask for input or suggestions from others to add to or improve an existing idea.Show some play tests and tweaks to let us in on your process. If one plays it out the final version, then post that final version to "battle report" for example

I don't agree with the idea that there are too many boards, but as with all such things ,I have noticed that many folks don't stay on topic and randomly post where they please. This is not a problem of course, all are free to play as they like :)and I don't mind. What I would really love to see is folks separating their posts out from the general "discussion" boards and posting to relevant headings for easier access to information and interaction.

A good example of this is the "Dungeon Crawl" board where there is little discussion of actual playing of dungeon crawls or discussing tactics to use when engaged in such games. Neither do I see much discussion on experiences in creating them. Mostly we see projects for constructing homemade tiles and such and gaming products being made for such games being showcased. Mind you, nothing is bad or wrong about it, but I hope folks see my point. For example, these products would be better posted to "new products" boards.

I am not trying to tell folks how to play on here,I am only talking about how I think the whole site could be much more helpful and inspirational if we all had a slightly more common idea as to how to make postings more relevant. I would love to hear other folks thoughts and input.

I think the scenario boards should stay. John Miller

I like the scenario boards and regularly search them. Just need more people to post scenarios!!
