IMHO the only thing that could/would make this better is if the Afghan regulars were advancing instead of marching. I have never understood the appeal of marching poses for wargaming purposes -- though I freely admit they can be very useful for particular vignettes or dioramas, and also admit this is just my own personal picadillo! Maybe they'll release a pack or two of "Advancing" and/or "Firing line" Afghan regular infantry and make it a moot point.

Anyway, nitpicks aside, this is fantastic for us Second Afghan War gamers, though in my particular case I now must seriously consider whether to replace my converted Perry Sikhs version of Jacob's Rifles with these new bespoke versions.

At this point it seems possible if not probable the Perrys will release 1878-1880 Gurkhas as well. Question is will that be before or after Artizan finally gets around to adding Gurkhas to their own long-gestating Second Afghan War range?

No question it is a boon time for us colonial gamers in general, and Second Afghan War gamers in particular.

These are beautiful figures but I'm with you Mad Guru. I know marching poses have their uses but I vastly prefer my figures to be advancing, firing or in some other more dynamic pose. If I didn't already have large Colonial collections in 15mm, going back 35+ years, I'd go all in for the new ranges in 28mm. They're fantastic. However, I'll stick with my old, beloved Mike's Models, Peter Pig and Gallia and continue scouring the web in hopes of finding more Mike's Models. grin

HAH!!! Ragbones, I first started gaming the Second Afghan War with Mke's Models 15mm figures back around 1979-1980, and still have a small fishing tackle box filled with them! I think it's fantastic that you are still playing with those same figures and even adding new ones!

As above I prefer my fighting figures to be in fighting poses.

Mad Guru, I'd love to see some pictures of your Mike's Models. Poor li'l guys, stashed away in that ole tackle box, lonely… wink

Glad you like them boys.

First of all, these are metal figures, NOT plastic. Tango must have missed that part:) Second, if you are looking for metal, the Jacob's Rifles figures are also available in a firing line set:

Combined with the Command set, you should able to make up some pretty spiffy units.

Hmmm… none of the above 7 posts on this thread ever mentioned the word "plastic" -- but I see now that Tango did cross-post it to the "Plastic Figures" board, which was indeed a mistake. I found it via the 19th Century Discussion board and didn't notice the cross-post until after you raised the issue.

The simple solution is for someone to let the Editor know so he can remove it from the Plastic Figures board. Maybe you've done that already, Major. I will PM the Editor just in case. In any case, despite the cross-posting error, I'm happy Tango posted the topic.

So far the only plastic figures in the Perry's "Victoria's Little Wars" range are the box of British Infantry for Afghanistan and Sudan, but there's a box of British Infantry for the Zulu War coming, and many NWF gamers are hoping for a box of plastic Pathan Tribesmen as well.

My mistake for Plastic… and glad you like them too my friend…
