In the new boardgame "Hold the Line: Remastered" some of the terrain features apply combat modifiers which don't seem logical. eg A hill will give a +1 to a defender and a -1 to attacker. Now I can see this might apply to melee , but surely not to fire combat ? Thoughts? |

From what I've read over the years firing up at targets was generally considered to be less accurate than firing down. That said giving advantage to 1 side and disadvantage to the other for the same thing seems to be a bit excessive. |

I always heard that shooting downhill was less effective, as most tended to shoot high. I cannot recall where I read that nor cite a source right now. IIRC it was referring o King's Mountain, so general applicability may vary. I would think there might be a morale advantage to being uphill that might translate in a firefight. I look foward to following this discussion. |

Because the trigger has a hard pull which tends to rock you back slightly, along with the "flinch" that can occur when the powder in the pan ignites, these can make you fire high. Factor in that you aren't firing on flat surfaces and the potential for firing high and missing entirely is greater. However, I agree with Vigilant that double dipping is excessive. I'd personally just give the -1 for firing uphill and forget about downhill. |

I agree with the others that it represents firing high when firing downhill. I also agree that the modifiers should not be applied twice, but oh well. Not everyone agrees with Neil Thomas' concept of double jeopardy in rules. |

In this boardgame, fire combat is not simultaneous so the -1 for attacking would apply to both sides (in subsequent turns)…. Melee is slightly different and the +1 for defender would apply in the same round as the -1 for attaker. …….. at least as I read it. |

You could do something more subtle, if applicable, like defender wins ties. If rounding is required, round up or down depending on the outcome you want to favor or disfavor. |

Sounds like a house rule modification is in order. |
