So I keep seeing people referencing the home page. Generally in the from of complaints that it gets cluttered with Tango posts or silly polls.

Am I the only one that almost never uses the front page?

On my pc. My link to TMP goes to 18th century board. On my PhD phone it goes to the main boards. The only time I go to the front page is to go to polls, doghouse, lounge and plus boards. I know where those links are. I don't notice any "spam" from tango. I might look at the top news and that's it.

I have no need to use the front page as a "news feed" on topics on tmp.

So for those that really hate the "cluttered" front page. Don't use it.

SJDonovan26 Jan 2017 3:43 a.m. PST

I use the Homepage because I want to see when new topics are posted. However, I have got it configured so that most of it is turned off (no Tango, no polls, no rules forum) and I find that keeps it usable.

Agreed.

Mako1126 Jan 2017 3:57 a.m. PST

I use the Home Page all the time, to keep up with current events and all postings.

I keep it up and running, most of the time.

Disco Joe26 Jan 2017 4:45 a.m. PST

I always go directly to the home page to see what is new for the hobby news.

Texas Jack26 Jan 2017 4:56 a.m. PST

I am home page oriented fellow as well.

I use the home page. It's personalized so boards I don't need are turned off.

Weasel26 Jan 2017 5:23 a.m. PST

Typically I do.

Vigilant26 Jan 2017 5:37 a.m. PST

Always, my interests are not limited to any single period. I just don't click on links that I'm not bothered about.

I always use the Home Page, occasionally the other boards if I get Bored!

Kevin C26 Jan 2017 5:56 a.m. PST

I use the Homepage. I just reconfigured it to show only what I want it to show. If you do this, it works really well. Also, if there are items in which you are occasionally interested, but usually not (for example, in my case polls), then you can move them to the side bar. This is far less distracting. That is what I like about TMP Homepage, you can configure in any way you want. It is very user friendly, even for a Luddite like me.

Almost exclusivly

90% home page. 10% boards to look for replies to,an old thread.

I use it, my first stop when I come to TMP.

Gunfreak, you could always use the 18th Century page as your homepage, too:

BTCTerrainman Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 7:15 a.m. PST

Home Page. I quickly scan the news, check the market place on the left and scan through the messages to see if there is anything I want to look at. I then go to some message boards to follow certain thread groups.

jdpintex26 Jan 2017 7:19 a.m. PST

Always use the Homepage. I only visit a handful of boards to follow older discussions. I switch off anything I don't care about (i.e. the new rules board).

Plus I like Tango's posts because he covers everything (some useful, some not). For some reason, I will open a Tango post, while I ignored the previous posting. So I'm glad he reposts things.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 7:43 a.m. PST

Yes, always. Scan it and then over to the other boards that I follow.

Hafen von Schlockenberg26 Jan 2017 8:00 a.m. PST

Whoa,wait--there's a special phone just for PhD's? Why wasn't I told about this?!

Oh. Right.

Toronto4826 Jan 2017 10:09 a.m. PST

I use an edited Home Page TMP gives you the option to display what you want to see and the order it shows as well as the ability to deselect boards and to ignore individuals This allows you to format the Homepage to your own needs

jambo126 Jan 2017 10:40 a.m. PST

I always head to the homepage first and then onto the message boards.

Choctaw26 Jan 2017 12:11 p.m. PST

Homepage and if time permits the message boards.

Personal logo ochoin Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 1:29 p.m. PST

The trick, GF, is to remove as much as possible from the Home Page. I've got about a quarter of the options there & thus, it becomes manageable.

14Bore26 Jan 2017 2:15 p.m. PST

Homepage first for me

HidaSeku26 Jan 2017 2:23 p.m. PST

I use both the homepage and the individual message boards.

I find I sometimes will miss an entry on the homepage that will be easily spotted and enjoyed when viewed the on the individual message boards.

Probably 60/40 split as far as use. (60% homepage, 40% message boards)

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 3:39 p.m. PST

I only have a BA phone, not a PhD, and it goes to the homepage. So does my computer's browser.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP26 Jan 2017 4:13 p.m. PST

I use the homepage – and I have no problem with it at all.

I've never had an issue with Tango01 either.

I can't understand why some people get so upset – they've tried to explain and it just seems like getting annoyed for the sake of it. Here's my take :

1. No-one has to read his posts.

2. If people are really upset at just seeing the posts exist they can choose the Ignore option.

3. Some time ago The Editor in Chief (may he live forever) changed things so that TMP users can show many more front page messages to stop items being bumped off the bottom too soon.

And still people get very upset. Now it seems (to me anyway) to be more about the person than the posts. I don't like that, as it smacks of bullying.

Personally I don't have the time to be mad at this or that quirky feature of TMP. Life really is far too short for that. So sometimes the bug strikes – we all shout "BUG BUG" and it's a bit funny. The world doesn't end.

I like dropping in at TMP – I'm glad it exists. Thanks Bill.

altfritz26 Jan 2017 6:30 p.m. PST

It seems to me that a lot more people get upset that people get upset with Tango than those who are upset. If you follow me…

That's very wise. You wouldn't believe the amount of spam that gets posted on it.

I beg to differ, Sir. A bit of stifling & ignore & about 2/3rds disappears, including the spam.
