A new area for a 'War in the Ice' series of Air/Land/Sea battles. As the Nortwest Passage becomes warmer/clearer Oil Platforms and shipping interdiction can occur.

The Coast Guard says it needs six to cover responsibilities at the North and South Poles. And they cost a billion dollars to build.

In other words, gizz us $ 6 billion!

I, myself, struggle to see what responsibilities the US has in the Antarctic.

Same as the US responsibilities in the Arctic: dealing with sea ice and breaking channels. providing SAR. Getting to those various Antarctic research stations.

6 icebreakers means 2 deployed, 2 getting ready to deploy, and 2 just coming back from a deployment.
