I am about to paint my first 1830 French infantry. I know that their trousers should be 'garance' (madder red) but illustrations seem to vary from scarlet to deep deep red. What Vallejo colour would people recommend for this, or should I just go on the 'small figure/bright colour' principle and use scarlet? |

I can't ID a particular Vallejo color because I don't use that many Vallejo paints, but what I use for garance is a deeper red than scarlet. Not orangey, and not too bright, but definitely a true, deep red. I've found a number of paints from various ranges for these over the years. |

Sounds good. Thanks for the advice. I think I can identify a Vallejo that fits your description. |

Don't worry too much about the shade of red … combat and campaigning will change that in a few days or weeks. Unless of course you are doing parade ground troops. |
