I recently read the neat history of the Kormoran, and ordered both a large freighter and the Sydney to recreate its last battle. When I was floating through the different stats for ships in Naval Thunder, I didn't see anything that would fit for the Kormoran. My question is, can I just take a German typical merchant vessel and add the correct guns to it, as well as tack on some extra speed? It looks like it didn't have any extra armor, but would it have been faster than a typical cruiser? Thanks for any help y'all |

I've done some more reading, as it doesn't look like it was faster; in fact it looks pretty slow. For now, I've just given the merchant ship the 6" guns, some torpedos, and a touch more armor. Feel free to correct me. |

I've seen stats worked up for the Command at Sea family, but not for NT. Merchant ships are too tough in NT for my taste. The Kormoran might have more flotation points than the Sydney. |

Cool. It looks like the only guns worth writing up are its 6"-ers? |

Certainly not faster. Muggenthaler gives her speed as 18 knots. But at the start of the action against Sydney a cylinder in No 4 diesel ran hot reducing her speed to 14 knots for half an hour. In my homebrewed rules Kormoran would rate a defence value of 18 against Sydney's 26. In a table top action I would give the Germans an enhanced first salvo compared to the Australians. I don't know the Naval Thunder rules so I can't suggest how to do this. |

No armour, as far as I am aware, and no protection for the machinery space. Certainly none for the boilers. |

Certainly none for the boilers But Kormoran was diesel engined so no boilers. As far as I can remember the only steam-powered German raider was Orion. She proved to be not as successful as some of the other ships because of the requirement to always keep steam up and her higher fuel consumption. |
