While reading the (Will Brexit Negatively Affect our Hobby? thread) I had a thought. What about Trump's impending trade war with China? Us Painter for Hires do not see this as a bad thing BTW. One just needs to peruse "28mm Painted" on ebay to see the devastation that has been wrought upon US based Miniature Painters. The interesting thing is that the Sweatshop Mercenaries are a paltry sum on ebay UK, as compared to the teaming masses on ebay US. |

I am curious to see how any trade deals that might occur after Brexit and Trump's inauguration will impact the hobby. After all, a good percentage of the "cool" minis are produced in the UK and the US. My hope is that miniature gamers on both sides of the pond might benefit. Wouldn't it be nice if Republican, Democrat, Independent, Tory, and Labor gamers all benefited (at least in this one area) from these changes. Again, my comments are not meant as a commentary on all of the outcomes that we shall see as a result of recent political changes (that is a topic better reserved for the Blue Fez). Kevin |

Maybe G.W. would make miniatures in the UK once again and make metal ones also |

Maybe postage to the UK from the US will change too! |

Some US companies export to the UK at reasonable postal rates while others charge astronomical prices. Maybe it's a question of those companies finding the right services. |

Not an issue on the "right services", just them taking a chance with uninsured, 1st Class Mail. As of a few years ago, you can no longer insure international 1st Class Mail for shipment overseas, and the lowest Priority Mail rate internationally runs about $35 USD – $40 USD for even the lightest weight package, so….. |

I don't mix Bridge with Wargaming. |

But many wargames feature bridges… |

Looking forward to cheaper wargaming here in Australia. Like it or not, the vast majority of Wargames stuff comes from the UK and USA. Trump has stated the US dollar is too high -- I think we can expect it to drop. The pound has dropped, and maybe will drop some more. So for those of us outside of these two countries, cheaper toy soldiers!!!! |

"Maybe postage to the UK from the US will change too!" + "Maybe pigs will grow wings and fly." (And thus new, cheaper overseas delivery services were formed: AirPig Express, BaconAir, etc. ;-) I'm just going to sit back and wait to see what happens… |

i'm almost sure both Trump and Brexit had and are having a good effect also in our hobby..the reason is the most obvious economy and market explanation: wargame buyers, being, among other things, educated buyers, were fearful of the conditions of their markets/country before those 2 changes…now is the opposite..the market and wargamers minds (obviously the more educated and relaxed ones)tends toward optimism and buy more figures, plan more project…maybe, with me as an exeption, paint more figures :-)) |

I'm looking forward to a lot of new Laser Cut MDF Walls. They'll be beautiful and (in scale) about 20 foot high. Should look pretty neat. |

maybe somebody, among the many self appointed intellectuals and fine political analyst in this forum, could explain why wargame industry entreupreneurs and customers behaviour is supposed to have nothing to do with this logical and happy consequence: link |

Now there's talk of 'Calexit' and petitions for California to secede. I'm sure somebody somewhere is already gaming the scenario possibilities. |

If it happens, it happens. Manufacturers destroyed small brick and mortar with their push to get all of the share of money. They all opened direct internet sales. Now some other factor MAY or MAY NOT occur to help or hurt their business. It will not affect me. since my sales have been on a downward spiral since they started direct sales. I no longer try to get products from companies like I did 30 years ago. If they are made in the USA, great. Companies used to have American agents make their products here before they wanted all of the direct sale money. So many companies, I can name had American manufacturers. So if it happens cry if you want. Gamers are all 1/2 price vultures as we used to call folks in the clothing business. Just look how cheap new products have o be on ebay before they will sale. I no longer even do that site. Now they will have to open their wallets and pay higher prices for direct overseas sales. |
