….Electromagnetic Pulse Artillery Shells "If the U.S. Army has its way, America's next secret weapon may be an electromagnetic pulse artillery shell that paralyzes an enemy city. These special shells won't carry high explosive. Instead they will emit EMP bursts, or some other non-kinetic technology, to disrupt the computers, radio communications, Internet links and other ties that bind modern societies. And do so without creating any physical damage. This is sort of a twenty-first-century version of the neutron bomb, that notorious Cold War weapon designed to kill Soviet soldiers through a burst of radiation, while inflicting little damage to property. Except this weapon targets the radio frequency networks that keep a nation functioning. The concept is expressed in a single paragraph in a new Army research proposal:…" Main page link Amicalement Armand |

I always think first, "Bureau of Land Management", when I see those initials. |

Yes, yes of course, Bureau of Land Management, what else would it mean. My apologies if anyone suffered a microaggression episode or if your snowflake melted. Wolfhag PS – Hopefully this keeps me out of the DH |

hahahaha! Good ones, Cosmic and Rhysius! How or where are the weaponeers going to field test this shell? |

It is well known that EMP will fry most electronics, etc., … It only makes sense to make a bomb/shell that would do that. With all the electronics in many, many systems we find in machines, etc., today. That could be a very effective weapon … |

I would point out that land-based tube artillery is a terrible delivery system for such a device. Short range, small payload, enormous g-loading, and worst of all, prolonged exposure to trail apes. An MLRS or cruise missile would be a much better starting point. Gravity bomb would work just fine, but wouldn't be very popular with the aircrew that has to deliver it via a resurrected A-1 Skyraider. |

Shoot enemy satellites out of the sky, and drop Emp bombs puts an enemy back to the 1950s in communications. I bet Ronnie "Star Wars" Reagan put some offensive weapons on the stuff he put into orbit. |

Rumor has it. Many US satellites have an "offensive" capability … but I'm sure if so, it is very, very classified. |

Every satellite has an offensive capability: gravity. When a satellite re-enters the atmosphere normally, it's skimming across at a flat angle, burns up high. If you can drop one at a steep enough angle, well, I think the technical term is "crater-bait" |

Well yeah … if you want to use them a big pieces of metal and plastic, etc., for dropping on your enemies' heads … |

OK, could hurt civilians, but there are hardened sites, including military, that won't be affected by EMPs to the point they can't retaliate or defend. But, chaos would erupt. Think of all the people standing around trying to get connection with their personal devices. How long before they panic? Ha |
