Hi all,

I'm toying with the idea of starting to game AWI with British Grenadier (haven't picked up the rules yet, but have heard good things). Now I'm well aware that AWI battles varied in size and scope (and that this mix is well represented in the scenario books), but I was wondering, on average, what kind of table space does the game require? Surely Monmouth will be larger than Hobkirk's Hill, but could someone with the scenario books let me know what size most games would comfortably take up? I'm thinking about doing the game in 10mm, which should help with the required space, but was just wondering what I was getting into.

Thanks!

Andrew

Mine are in storage but having fought most of the scenarios, in all the books so far, from memory most are doable in 15mm on a 6' x 4' or something similar.

We play 15mm and most games from the scenario books are done on a 6 x 4 ft table. Monmouth has been split into two scenarios each easily accommodated on a 6x4 but if you want to do the whole of Monmouth, Germantown etc you will need a lot more space.

The rules author recommends an 8' x 5' table for 28mm games (he actually uses 7' x 5'), and as the other posters have said, 6' x 4' will do for 15mm.

A handy tip here – if fighting smaller engagements in 15mm, use the 28mm movements and ranges, as these will speed up the game.

I should add that Fat Wally, Vespasian and I have actually devised and play-tested several of the scenarios in the books, so we do know that of which we speak.

I'll second using the 28mm movements and distances for 15mm figures.

I just got the deluxe version of these rules and am trying to get my table together. I can't find any place in the main rules where the author recommends an 8 x 5 table for 28mm games. I see one place where he says that he has a 5 x 7 and most of the scenarios in the book are supposed to be fine on 6x4. Seems like a bit of an oversight to me as if it's important to have an extra two feet given range and deployment at this scale, I would want to know it. Now I'm confused and thinking that all the 6x4 mats I already own and was planning on using will be too small given what's said above. Where is the 8 x 5 quote coming from for 28mm? Am I missing the page somehow or is it in one of the scenario books that I don't have?

I play on a 6x5' ground cover and that seems to fit for most battles in 15mm.

I think 8' x 5' comes from the 1st edition.
