I spent some time today working on my drafting skills, seeing how well I can emulate a real-life object. This is one of the 4 sides of a 40K Necron Obelisk; obviously not an exact copy, but I think it's coming along nicely.

Now I just need to finish the guns, the large scarab-looking things on the sides, the top, and the bottom/base piece.

Very cool. What program did you use?

Autodesk Fusion 360. It lacks some features (not being able to drawing on curved surfaces is the biggest drawback), but the interface is much easier to navigate than Blender.

I don't know about fusion but with sketchup the work around for drawing on curves is to draw it flat, extrude it through the curved surface, intersect the faces and delete everything not wanted. You can probably do similar tricks with fusion.

Works the same in Fusion, but creating multiple offset planes for detailing multiple objects is tiresome. There's some functionality for projecting a sketch from a plane onto a curved surface in Fusion, but it's difficult to work with and rarely works correctly (which is why I didn't bother detailing the spheres on the bottom of this piece).
