Any books to recommend about the 1813-15 "wars of liberation", the Freikorps and the rise of German nationalist sentiments?

Both militarily and any social/political stuff?

Michael Leggiere's two volume set.

George Nafziger's three volume set is very good for a purely military study. They are best when used in conjunction with some additional maps or an atlas like Esposito's. Volume One is due to be reprinted this summer, I believe.
Petrie is still worthwhile as well, and I can heartily recommend James Arnold's latest book, which covers Lutzen and Bautzen in some detail.

Michael Leggiere's Napoleon and Berlin covers the 1813 campaign from the rise against Napoleon from the collapse of the Grand Armee after the retreat from Russia to the 6th Coalition's approaches to the Rhine River after Leipzig. I heartedly recommend it.

Also Peter Paret's Yorck and the Era of Prussian Reform [ link ] covers the rise of Prussian nationalism in the army from about 1807 through at least the 1813 campaigns.

Sam Mustafa wrote a paper on this, didn't he?
Or am I imagining that?

Dear All,

Regarding your query about the social/political background: Heinrich Steffens memoir is available in English: "Adventures on the Road to Paris, During the Campaigns of 1813-1814". Steffens was a university teacher in Halle. Many of his students entered the various volunteer jager units raised in 1813. His descriptions capture the passions of the times and helped inform me when writing my book.
