What percentage of your tabletop miniature games are played as you and one or more players teamed against "the system" (the game)?

Weasel09 Jan 2017 5:28 p.m. PST

30ish percent.

Well, depends on how you look at it. If,by "the game" you mean some sort of AI, almost never. But if you think of a struggle with me trying to fight a wargame and the rules trying to prevent this, not only is it reasonably common, but some of the rules have so thoroughly routed me that there was nothing to do but sell them in a flea market and start over.

Sometimes the rules are my friends and playmates. But some rules are mean and vicious and I don't play with them any more.

Robert Piepenbrink, I feel your pain.

I remember a game day many years ago when I tried to play a game with one of the other members of our group. The rules were so full of internal contradictions and unintelligible statements that we gave up and started putting all of the components back in the box.

Our host took a break from the game he was playing and asked us who won. "The game did," we responded in unison.

I find myself playing more of David Bickley's, "A Good Dusting," for the Sudan, and, "Washing the Spears," for the Anglo-Zulu War. Both sets of rules share, as an option, a common engine to "automatically" control the native forces while the players control the Imperial forces. I really enjoy these rules and method of play.

20-30%. I've taken PvP games and turned them into cooperative games.

Nadda, zilch, zero.

If you count Thunderbirds (boardgame with miniatures), then a small percent.

It's a game I play a few times each month, but I play a lot of games ^,^

That's what I mean, though "AI" may be stretching the point…

None, but I plan to start getting my group to use some 2 hour wargames so that is about to change.

.01% I played "Defenders of the Realm" once. Fun game, really should play it again.

Only in my friend's "Starship troopers" game where the bugs run themselves…

pvernon Supporting Member of TMP10 Jan 2017 10:21 a.m. PST

none, but would be interested if there were decent opponent rules.
