WWPD.net has published it's review of the new Team Yankee Volksarmee book: link

I am a little surprised to see the Mot.-Schützen get PKM ("MG PK" in East German valence), as I was under the impression that these were strictly for KdA and other second-line formations… like the RPD ("lMG-D") or RP-46 ("Kp.-MG"). Does anyone have any information about that?

I am also not sure why the Bastion is missing… it would definitely give the little T-55 a bit more punch on the tabletop!

Apperantly the T55AM2's lacked the 1K13 BOM guidance system to be able to control the Bastion's. Poland and Czechoslovakia did produce a small number of T-55s with that capability (T-55AM2P and T-55AM2B respectively).

I hadn't found anything that suggested the DDR bought any upgrades other then just the AM2 upgrades.

The NVA had a couple of Dienstvorschriften about the Bastion Lenkwaffenkomplex, and they certainly had T-55AM2B's. There's one siting at the Panzermuseum in Muenster…

Glad to see the new releases.

Wish they were in plastic though.

And here's an old NVA T-55 AM2B driving around in Vienna, Austria: youtu.be/iSkm06wiUDM

Come on, where are the NVA experts on TMP? If I were over on the Nappy forum I would have a hundred members lining up to tell me exactly how many buttons were on the waistcoat of Napoleon's man-servant…

Makes me consider adding them to my TY collection. And I just might too.

It is probably worth pointing out that second-line and reserve formations (and even some frontline units) were never equipped with BMP's and BTR-70's in their mechanized and motorized infantry companies and woud have had BTR-50PK's and BTR-152's (each of which has a model made by Battlefront in either the Vietnam or the Arab-Israeli line). Plus, some reconaissance companies would have, instead of the BRDM-2, used the PT-76, which is also available in the FoW Vietnam series.

So, a few more options for East Germans! Alle Welt sehnt sich nach Frieden, reicht den Völkern eure Hand!

I wish BF would do the second and third line units with the crappier equipment.

However all the reports I've seen show the NVA Pt76s being mothballed around 1981 in favour of BMP1. Do you have alternate information ?

I gather AT10 Bastion wasn't used til about 1989 by the NVA which is why it isn't an option.

Mako1119 Jan 2017 2:58 a.m. PST

I've seen listings for PT-76s as well, especially in some cases, as the "tank" platoon in recon formations.

Makes sense, since they can swim, instead of having to stop to put up a cumbersome snorkel, before fording a river, especially since those little BRDMs, and many of those IFVs/APCs are amphibious too.

@GmanOz, I am not positive myself. I'm new to the whole Cold War scene and I have been having a great deal of trouble finding sources on the NVA in either English or German! I will post here when I have more information, but if you come across any primary or secondary sources, then I would appreciate any new leads.

Yes, the NVA certainly had no access to any barrel launched ATGMs in the mid 80s,

Tally Ho!

They bouth them at the end of 1989. end returned them to USSR after one month due political reasons. They had 50 T-55AM2B wich could fire them. My source is:
