I'm looking for a 28mm dhow kit for a Zanzibar scenario. Anybody know who makes one or am I going to have to go the scratchbuilding route?

Check your local hobby shop or eBay for a wooden sailboat model.I got one with a natural wooden hull and all I had to do was scratch build a lateen sail and attach it to the mast.

I heard this beauty was being mass-produced now, but,I can't recall where:

Old Glory 25s makes a nice large dhow. If you go to their website and look under Shipyard/25mm/Colonial and Sudan it is listed as MCL10 Large Dhow. I used two of them in my Pulp Egyptian collection. You can see them painted and in my diorama-style layout in pics 40, 44 and 46 at link

The Dhow model featured above was modelled by me for Grand Manner.

I'm not sure it was ever released, but you could try contacting Dave Bodley at Grand Manner

If you have a Hobby Lobby near check them out. They usually have quite a bit of nautical knicknaks

Ive used the gunboat from Scale Creep as an armed dhow in the past. Just need to give it the right sail.

Fellow TMPer Last Stand Dan has begun selling his custom-built dhows (as well as gunboats), and they are very nice indeed. Not sure about price, but maybe he'll be around to visit this thread, or you can check his blog over at:

Here's some pics:

I have a few of "Last Stand Dans" boats, they are awesome and very reasonably priced! Highly recommended.
