Another year, another slew of awards for one of the finest actors of the last 40 years. But what's your favourite Streep movie ? Maybe this should be a favourite 5 poll, to whittle it down to a reasonable number for the final pick!

For me ? The French Lieutenant's Woman, Out of Africa, The Bridges of Madison County : what can I say? I'm such a romantic.

Haven't yet seen – but want to Suffragette and Florence Foster Jenkins. What can I say ? I believe women should have the vote and be allowed to sing really badly. grin

None of them.

The Devil Wears Prada.

Julie and Julia.

Momma Mia.

None of them.

Hadn't thought we'd need that option – but ok!

Oh – I also want to grab Plenty. Great film.

Hadn't realised she's in The Homesman – that's sitting on the "to see" pile – but I was only aware of Tommy Lee Jones / Hilary Swank.

Struggling for my fifth – The Deer hunter is very good of course…

Dynaman878909 Jan 2017 6:42 a.m. PST

Sophie's Choice. Partly that is due to Kevin Kline however.

Kramer vs Kramer – but only due to Saturday Night Live's "Kramer vs Godzilla"

The Deer Hunter for me, with Bridges of Madison County next. She's a great actress, but I haven't actually seen all that many of her movies, I'm ashamed to say!

Death Becomes Her

Pictors Studio09 Jan 2017 7:19 a.m. PST

I've only seen the Deer Hunter, Sophie's Choice and A.I. and I don't think I watched A.I. the whole way through and didn't remember she was in it. I thought Deer Hunter was pretty terrible. So I guess Sophie's Choice. I haven't deliberately avoided her movies.

Ragbones09 Jan 2017 7:21 a.m. PST

She's a great actress but usually I'm not interested in the films she makes. "The Deer Hunter" and "Sophie's Choice" are easily my favorites of the few I've seen.

Grignotage09 Jan 2017 7:28 a.m. PST

Loved her in Julie and Julia and Postcards from the Edge.

Old Wolfman09 Jan 2017 7:52 a.m. PST

Also was in the NBC 1970's TV miniseries "Holocaust" playing James Woods' wife.

skinkmasterreturns09 Jan 2017 8:03 a.m. PST

The Devil wears Prada. Being a male nurse,I have worked for the Devil.

She always got on my nerves….not sure why though

Hafen von Schlockenberg09 Jan 2017 8:30 a.m. PST

I haven't seen enough of these to vote. I would like to see the new one though.

Julie and Julia
Devil Wears Prada
Iron Lady

cfuzwuz09 Jan 2017 9:09 a.m. PST

None. Her movies never interested me. Kevin Bacon was good in The River Wild.

Gone Fishing09 Jan 2017 9:24 a.m. PST

Funny so many don't seem to like her. I'd go so far to say she is the best American actress alive, and has been for some decades.

Having said that, I haven't seen the vast majority of her films (which might disqualify my input!). Of those I have, top pick would be Out of Africa – she was also great in Postcards from the Edge.

Texas Jack09 Jan 2017 9:28 a.m. PST

To be fair, I would not consider Julia to be a Meryl Streep film, but without it I wouldn´t have five. So:

Manhattan
The French Lieutenant´s Woman
Postcards from the Edge
Defending Your Life
Julia

I notice Mamma Mia is not on the list, and I thank you for that.

WarWizard09 Jan 2017 10:01 a.m. PST

Looking at that list I realized I have only seen a couple of those films.

But the only 2 I have cared to watch more than once were:
The Deer Hunter
It's Complicated (which was not on the list, but a very funny comedy.)

But wanting to watch either had nothing to do with her being in it. I think both films would have been just as good with someone else playing her role. She just happened to be in them.

Cacique Caribe09 Jan 2017 10:09 a.m. PST

I used to really like her. But now all I can think of when I see her in film is the image (and sound) of her creepy comments at a certain convention, and that is enough to cancel out all those years of admiration.

Ditto here, but Momma Mia! was good.

skipper John09 Jan 2017 10:30 a.m. PST

Surely this was posted today because of her rude and nasty comments last night at the golden globes awards?? No doubt looking for some poor soul to express openly what a horrid person she truly is?? Well it won't be me…..

Perris070709 Jan 2017 10:30 a.m. PST

I would not watch any film because of her. She reminds me of my mother-in-law…

USAFpilot09 Jan 2017 10:51 a.m. PST

skipper John nailed it.

Personal logo Doctor X Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 10:53 a.m. PST

After looking over that list of films I'd have to say I'm not a fan of her work. So I'd have to say none of the above.

Don't really care what her political leanings are. I'm not influenced by any Hollywood types.

Cacique Caribe09 Jan 2017 11:00 a.m. PST

Skipper John, I hadn't even heard about last night. She must be starving for attention. :)

She is an excellent actress who appears in movies I do not care for (except The Deer Hunter)who has political opinions I tend to ignore.

Chuckaroobob09 Jan 2017 11:14 a.m. PST

Although I liked The Devil Wears Prada and Momma Mia, the vast majority of those moves I have never seen. Hated the film Iron Lady.

Col Durnford09 Jan 2017 11:15 a.m. PST

Reviewed the list. May have seen a few on TV. Not interested in seeing any of them again. No box office draw for me regardless of political leaning.

DeRuyter09 Jan 2017 11:20 a.m. PST

Surely this was posted today because of her rude and nasty comments last night at the golden globes awards?? No doubt looking for some poor soul to express openly what a horrid person she truly is?? Well it won't be me…..

I see what you did there. You may not have liked it, but her commentary was far above the rude and nasty comments that are the modus operandi of the subject of her speech.

After all we are now in an era when anyone and everyone can spew 140 characters of baseless nonsense at whomever they desire. The stripping away of any sense of decorum starts at the top and flows downhill.

wrgmr109 Jan 2017 11:25 a.m. PST

It's Complicated is my favourite, followed by The Devil Wears Prada.
Her politics are not my concern, she is an actress and a good one.

redmist112209 Jan 2017 11:27 a.m. PST

…its a trap!

Shagnasty Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 11:31 a.m. PST

I have seen most of these films and have thought she was outstanding in them. Her politics are not mine and I wish she, and her colleagues would keep them to themselves. The sad thing is that there was some truth in her diatribe.

Mako1109 Jan 2017 11:31 a.m. PST

You're being presumptuous in assuming there is one.

There's not.

Mollinary09 Jan 2017 11:41 a.m. PST

I notice Mamma Mia is not on the list,

I just grabbed the list from Wikipedia (other universal encyclopedias are not available grin), so not sure why it isn't there.

I'm not a fan of her singing & comedy roles – I think she's better than that in serious roles and lots of other people are better at singing.

The Beast Rampant09 Jan 2017 12:27 p.m. PST

Her quavering, ill-spoken rant- while accepting her Cecil B. DeMille Award, no less- put me off her for good. Hollywood is full of imbeciles who don't understand that there is a time and a place for everything. Or maybe they just don't give a rat's ass.

If I wanted to make such opinions known, accepting an award on (inter)national TV would be far and away my best opportunity. But Meryl Streep can stand out on her lawn at any time of the day or night and tell the world what's on her little mind, and everyone would hear, anyway. But why not ruin the moment and sully the honor?

In answer to the OP, "Death Becomes Her". Though I doubt she had to reach too deep for that one.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 12:29 p.m. PST

Interesting. Death Becomes Her was the first Streep film I came out of really disappointed in her performance.

daler240D09 Jan 2017 12:35 p.m. PST

Florence Foster Jenkins

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 12:37 p.m. PST

I had a somewhat well known boss when I lived in Boston who was hiring a personal assistant and asked me and our office manager to make sure that every candidate watched the Devil Wears Prada as an example of what they could expect from the job and what his management style was. He wasn't trying to be funny or ironic. Somehow, we still found someone to take the job.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 12:45 p.m. PST

Florence Foster Jenkins

That does look good – I know she sings….but it's a bit…different grin

The Beast Rampant09 Jan 2017 1:26 p.m. PST

Maybe so. It's been a really long time. I just really liked the movie.

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 1:47 p.m. PST

Not saying you're wrong to like it – just chatting!

Personal logo piper909 Supporting Member of TMP09 Jan 2017 2:04 p.m. PST

I love "A.I." but don't remember Streep being in it. She must be doing voice-over work; maybe the Blue Fairy?

That would my only pick, then, sad to say. None of the movies I've seen that she's in really grab me, and most of them I haven't seen at all and am not interested in.
