I've heard occasionally of a wargame show substituting a campaign for a tournament.

I assume this would be an event with lots of players, played in rounds, similar to a tournament?

Tell me more. grin

Years ago at an Advance the Colors convention in Dayton Ohio, A group of us Command Decision players ran Greg Novak's "The Race to Tunis" supplement for CD 3. Mr. Novak was in attendance as well. The supplement is a mini-campaign and we ran this over two days, and was a success. It required organizers, game referees, and players, the players came and went during to course of the convention. Units were organized into "battalion sized" units representing the actual US, UK, Italian and German forces in Tunisia in late 1942.

Battles were allotted two hour slots, and strategic movement was kept on the point to point map in the supplement. There were two overall commanders to direct strategy and allocate air support supplies, etc… as well. Many 15mm miniatures, and terrain were used and were provided by several of us involved.

The campaign was fought out first on the strategic map and when a battle arose, that was played out on the individual tables, of which we had 5 the best I can recall. If all 5 tables were in use we were set to accommodate up to 5 referees, and 20 players (generally 4 per game in 2 teams of 2)at any one time. However that varied greatly as the strategic situation developed. As it played out we needed an additional hour per battle, but things went smoothly.

If interested, you might be able to acquire(e-bay perhaps) a copy of "The Race to Tunis" a CD III Supplement by Frank Chadwick, Greg Novak, Tom Harris, and John Holtz et al.

I recently ran a slightly scaled down version of the Battle of Philippi in three sessions across two days. The idea was that the first two battles took place at the same time, although we played them consecutively. The two winners then faced off for a grand finale. Funnily enough, we got a historical result. There was a mix of players across the three games, although I did have three who stuck with it all the way through.
