Do you like miniature figures sculpted with facial hair?

(a) Yes, I like miniatures that come with mustaches and beards.
(b) No, I prefer clean shaven faces. I'll paint them on myself if I want facial hair.
(c) It depends (please explain)

+1 Rich. The 18th century had an abhorrence of facial hair. Moustaches were for wild men. Or grenadiers.

The Beast Rampant04 Jan 2017 10:02 p.m. PST

A. And I think they're a bit easier to paint that way.

No, I prefer clean shaven faces. I'll paint them on myself if I want facial hair.

Not quite the same. And I've painted chest hair on my Early Germans.

A number of my Calpe figures have moustaches, ok by me.

Cerdic04 Jan 2017 11:51 p.m. PST

Depends on the historical period and what was common at the time.

I like a mix of facial hair & clean shaven. Also like a mix of hair on heads, short, long & sparse!

Depends on the period

For Celts, love to have the facial hair there

Same as for SYW grenadiers

Would look strange on Roman legionaries though

Weasel05 Jan 2017 6:54 a.m. PST

For the black powder stuff, you gotta have fabulous facial hair.

14Bore05 Jan 2017 12:30 p.m. PST

C if the figure comes with it I paint it. (15mm)

durecell05 Jan 2017 1:04 p.m. PST

I prefer clean shaven because it's easier to paint but if facial hair was fashionable for the period the models are from then they should have it.

Ceterman07 Jan 2017 2:46 p.m. PST

What Cerdic said. If it was common at the time, absolutely.

c. When it is appropriate.

Painting facial hair on a mini works for stubble or Boston Blackie. Real facial hair really needs to be a part of the mini …

Who is that stunning figure?

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP08 Jan 2017 8:30 a.m. PST

If they had it in real life. The figures should have it also
