I like these kinds of threads / posts so I started one! : )

2016

Last year I heard that people kept track of their 'games played' stats which never occurred to me but sounded fun. I think most people do this on a blog but I don't have one so you get this post. So running with a good idea I did it this year. I set what I thought was a modest goal of 24 games, an average of 2 a month.

I started out strong in the early year but in the end I barely made it, basically bc I had a drastic drop in gaming in the last quarter of the year due to real life, holidays, and the usual culprits. I didn't record the dates of the games so this is just from memory, but I think I'll add that for next year. UI included board games but as the list shows I only played one, which is kinda sad as I like board games. the only criteria for being included was 1) being played with someone else.

the games played were:

Hail Caesar – 6
Chain of Command – 3
Dragon Rampant – 1
WWII 2mm (don't know the rules) – 1
Rank and file – 3
Longstreet – 4
Regimental fire and fury – 2
Starwars rebellion- 3
Pickets charge- 1
Saga – 1

that's 24!! just made it!! What really saved me was attending 2 conventions where I got in several games over a few days.

I also recall that in the first half of the year I was playing a lot of dark ages games with Hail Caesar (6 games there) and SAGA made an appearance. in the later half of the year I got involved with a friend in doing ACW (rulesets of Longstreet, Regimental Fire and Fury, and Picket's charge) with 7 games, and these two combined make over half of the games played.

2017:

so for next year I will up the ante some and plan for 30 games for the year and try to squeeze in a few more. but this will be a challenge as I don't know if I'll be able to make 2 cons this year. maybe the small ones in SAC but probably not Kublacon this year. also need to make more club dates (as I belong to 2 local-ish game clubs); life was conspiring against me for a long time and always insuring I was double booked on club dates.

my main focus will be to finish the ACW project that I started. last year I made a good sized Union army (almost complete) and my buddy had the confederates and we both had some terrain. this year I want to have my own confederate army and even more terrain to be independent and be able to play even LARGER ACW games. I'm pretty good and sticking to one genre at a time for awhile so I think this can be can be done.

how about your 2016 game stats?

hope to see you all around 2017!

For the last few years, I try to write up the games I played in, miniature, boardgame, card game, etc, insert a few photos (if I remember to take them or get them from someone else), and then e-mail the PDF to a variety of gamers I've met over the years. I often combine several games into one PDF.

My AARs are as irregular as my gaming, but still about once per month or once every two months. It's nice to look back on them to jog the ol' memory…

2016: I see 36 folders, so that's at least 36 games. Played some multiple times and some folders contain multiple AARs. So, I guess on average about once every couple weeks for 2016.

2017?

Looking to finish up a couple rule sets that go along with the minis I bought last year. And making time to host more games -- had a small sci-fi 6-player Epic (6mm) game on Dec 30.

Oh, and looking forward to umpiring another big Snappy Nappy game up in CT…Last year had 15 or 16 gamers for 1807 Friedland. In 2015 had 20 for Waterloo.

The thing about keeping track of games played and miniatures painted is that at the end of the year when you look back and say where did the time go? you have a record of what you did. For me it slows the years down and make them more enjoyable.

2016 saw about 23 games played and the goal is 36 for 2017. If I don't make it that's OK as it's more about journey.

Now I wish I'd kept track of times played.

Titles will do.

I am excluding anything I've written myself since the point isn't to sell anything here :-)

Stargrunt 2
Chain of command
Crossfire
Rogue Planet
Lord of the rings

Board:
Twilight Struggle
1989: Dawn of freedom
War of the ring
Squad leader
Advanced squad leader
Lord of the rings living card game
Warhammer quest adventure card game
Space hulk death wing
Blood bowl team manager

Perhaps you would be interested in the 6 by 6 challenge?

Games played probably in the vacinity of 55. Usually one a week with extras at conventions.
Goals: finish Vimy ridge trenches, complete Calpe Prussians, Burgundians and start late Roman army.

About 85 games of Epic Armageddon and 50 historical games of anything from Ancients to WW2. It's great to be retired and to finally get more than 1 game a week.

good stats guys! I really want to keep track as I prefer to think of myself as a warGAMER and not so much as a wargamer collector….

some good stats there.

OHHH! I do like that 6 x 6 challenge, what a great concept. I'll take it on as well but is it weird that I can't really thing of 6 rule sets?
