I'm starting a 'The Chicago Way' project in 15mm and, while there are plenty of miniatures and some vehicles available, I'm really struggling for buildings (I'm aware of the Mean Streets buildings but am looking for an alternative to scaling down their paper models). But then I found these, produced by The Scene: link They are not perfect, but I think that if they are done up with appropriate signage etc then they would be passable. What does everyone else think? |

If your 15s are closer to 18s, I would look at paper and/or plastic HO railroad buildings. Edit: Nothing wrong with what you have posted, either. |

Blue Moon does a whole line of Chicago buildings that are based on the actually buildings associated with the gangster period. They come with lift off roofs and are designed for skirmish gaming with 15/18mm figures. link The buildings deal with the St. Valentine day massacre, the death of Dillinger, and various other buildings that Capone and others operated their business out of. |

You'll find a lot of HO plastic buildings that work well for that period and in that scale. |

I think I would have a look at how the Blue Moon Chicago buildings work with HO scale plastic buildings. When I did my 28mm gangster collection I combined the Old Glory Chicago buildings with O gauge buildings, and they worked really well together and provided a much larger selection of buildings than I would have had if I had limited myself to just the Old Glory Chicago buildings. |

Hi all (and happy new year!). Thanks for your responses. In the end I've open for several of the buildings I linked to. The Blue Moon ones are fantastic, but a bit out of my budget at the moment. Paper buildings are the opposite end of the scale. I tried scaling down White Wash City for old west games and, while they are great, they required a little too much effort for me to make into lasting structures. So for me, MDF is a happy medium. Mostly I wish 4Ground would make 15mm versions of all their 28mm stuff! That's again! |

Chris, remember the Old Glory army discount applies to the Blue Moon range. |

BrianW, my Gangsters "And Stuff" Gallery won't be posted on my website for a couple more weeks, but since this posting is about city buildings for use with gangsters I'll give you a look at an overview of my gangster city. Keep in mind that this is a 28mm collection, but I think it illustrates that a variety of buildings by different manufacturers and composed of different materials can be made to work well together if they share a similar paint style. My city is set on a 5 ft x 7 ft table and is composed of 37 buildings made of resin (Old Glory and Design Preservation Models), plastic (O gauge by RailKing, Plasticville, and Pegasus as well as toys marketed for the Cars Movie), and porcelain (Lemax and Dept. 56).[URL=http://s1082.photobucket.com/user/rgarretson/media/IMG_001-7449_zpsuniejmol.jpg.html]

That is nice indeed! I will wait until you've posted your photos so as not to hijack the thread. I will say, though, that I have some questions for you about your figures and vehicles. BWW |

Chris and Brian, glad you enjoyed it. I'm very happy with the way it came out… the vision has been rolling around in my head for nearly a decade. It is nice to see it realized on the board. Brian, as with all my galleries this one will have a lengthy write-up addressing what the collection is composed of. As to the figures used most of them come from the obvious manufacturers: Pulp Figures, Copplestone Castings, Brigade Games, Blue Moon, Foundry, Dixon, Reaper, Eureka, Heroclix, Crooked Dice… The unusual additions in terms of figures are the Hawthorne Village figures and the Artista miniatures Model Power (both O gauge). Most of the vehicles are 1:43 scale die cast that I picked up cheap (generally $3 USD) at the swap meet. They were usually a little beat up but were fine once repainted. A couple are Hallmark Christmas decorations, and about a dozen are Blue Moon Highways and Byways. The Blue Moon are expensive and were purchased early in my collecting process before I realized that I could get great stuff at the swap meet for very little money. That said I have no regrets about the Blue Moon cars and trucks. Hope this answers some of your questions. Richard |
