Also is there anything you would love to game if you didn't have to paint it?

Wargamer Dave29 Dec 2016 7:41 a.m. PST

Personally I have a Bleeped text of a time with any cuff lace or designs. Can never seem to get it good enough.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 7:44 a.m. PST

Horses in general – at this point I am not bad at painting them but they are the one thing I don't like to paint

Lascaris29 Dec 2016 7:44 a.m. PST

Another vote for horses.

Wackmole929 Dec 2016 7:47 a.m. PST

horses

skipper John29 Dec 2016 7:48 a.m. PST

That figures… I enjoy painting the horses. I hate the riders! All scrunched up and trying to hide things.

Pictors Studio29 Dec 2016 7:49 a.m. PST

Highlanders, of pretty much any variety prior to 1914.

Texas Jack29 Dec 2016 7:52 a.m. PST

To combine Frederick (and Lascaris) with skipper John, I totally, completely, and thoroughly, hate painting cavalry.

Wargamer Dave29 Dec 2016 8:01 a.m. PST

So then, Highland Cavalry?

Rich Bliss29 Dec 2016 8:06 a.m. PST

Tires. Especially tank road wheel tires.

jefritrout29 Dec 2016 8:20 a.m. PST

One more vote for horses. Don't like painting them at all.

chuck05 Fezian29 Dec 2016 8:20 a.m. PST

Pretty much anything at the moment. Ive been in a hobby funk for the past couple of months or so.

Scott MacPhee29 Dec 2016 8:24 a.m. PST

Limbers. I always assemble and base them first, and it's hard to reach many parts to paint them. I have tried painting then assembling, but that presents its own challenges.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 8:27 a.m. PST

I'm not up to highlanders any more--and I never was good--but I truly hate having to paint irregulars. They break the rhythm, they slow me down, and there's usually something I can't even identify, and so don't know what color to paint.

Project Vehemence29 Dec 2016 8:28 a.m. PST

Anything yellow!
And Hussars.. in 6mm!

Extrabio1947 Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 8:31 a.m. PST

Metallics. I have yet to find metallics that are reasonably opaque but not as thick as paste.

Jeigheff29 Dec 2016 8:33 a.m. PST

Reins on horses.

Jozis Tin Man29 Dec 2016 8:34 a.m. PST

Horses here too. I don't know why, it is some sort of mental block.

As a consequence, any time I start a project, I paint the Cavalry first to get it out of the way.

teboj1729 Dec 2016 8:37 a.m. PST

Horses, because mounted troops just take longer to get painted up then infantry. I have no problems painting them , I just don't like the extra time.

Also 28mm as I have been painting only 15mm the last few years (if any painting). I have to switch to different painting technique and have to remember how I did them before.

Fat Wally29 Dec 2016 8:40 a.m. PST

Ceilings and walls.

;-)

wrgmr129 Dec 2016 8:51 a.m. PST

Napoleonic drums. All the small vandyke on the edges. Pain in the A!

foxweasel29 Dec 2016 9:01 a.m. PST

If you don't enjoy your hobby then it isn't a hobby, just a chore. I only choose armies and periods that are interesting or rewarding to paint. I quite like reading about the American Civil war, but the idea of painting a sea of endless blue and grey is unthinkable.

Random Die Roll Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 9:01 a.m. PST

Kilt/tartan pattern.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 9:29 a.m. PST

Horses…chariots

cavcrazy29 Dec 2016 9:47 a.m. PST

Painting for me is therapy, once I start painting I very easily can paint for hours, no matter what I am painting. There is nothing I dread.

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 10:07 a.m. PST

Tartan!

Personal logo Yellow Admiral Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 10:20 a.m. PST

Tartan, or any other plaids, stripes, checks, etc.

WarWizard29 Dec 2016 10:25 a.m. PST

Only one thing I never care to paint – horse and rider.

Grimmnar29 Dec 2016 10:50 a.m. PST

Everything

Dale Hurtt29 Dec 2016 10:58 a.m. PST

I am going to have to say tartan….

Winston Smith29 Dec 2016 11:10 a.m. PST

Eyes and straps.

huron725 Supporting Member of TMP29 Dec 2016 11:30 a.m. PST

16th – 18th century troops with all their tassles and fru fa… takes forever to paint.

basileus6629 Dec 2016 11:30 a.m. PST

Badly sculpted and/or badly casted figures.

Bar those, Celtic designs.

Timmo uk29 Dec 2016 11:35 a.m. PST

I'll go with basileus66 on this – anything that isn't well cast is horrible to paint.

That aside I've never liked painting spoked wheels and artillery in general.

Going against the flow here but I love painting horses, especially ABs ones.

Bashytubits29 Dec 2016 12:13 p.m. PST

I am dreading painting my 28mm Samurai armies.

Vigilant29 Dec 2016 12:14 p.m. PST

It used to be horses until I got the War games Illustrated painting guide last year. It showed how to do several different colours and all of a sudden I was painting cavalry in no time. Don't know what clicked, but something did. This summer it was Arab infantry for the Crusade period. Don't know why, they just didn't do it for me.

redmist112229 Dec 2016 12:30 p.m. PST

After painting several thousand figures from a variety of periods, I would have to say anything which is not uniformed; any ancient barbarians, native American Indians, Vikings, Saxons, etc. My goal is not to have the same dress on these guys…which makes it difficult to paint…thus dreading the task at hand.

Highland kilts, socks and the dice around the base of the bonnet. UGH!

coopman29 Dec 2016 1:06 p.m. PST

Highlander kilts & socks, Louisiana Tiger Zouaves, horses.

abelp0129 Dec 2016 1:11 p.m. PST

Infantry. Cavalry is no big deal, riders are less packed down than infantry, takes me about a third the time an infantryman takes me. Horses are a breeze, separate them out by color and pose and start painting the bridle etc.

14Bore29 Dec 2016 1:47 p.m. PST

Love horses (see latest thread about them) but at 15mm never tried faces, they get different hair colors but faces are plain fkesh tone.

PrivateSnafu29 Dec 2016 1:56 p.m. PST

Splinter camo.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine29 Dec 2016 2:17 p.m. PST

Historical uniforms nothing is as hard work as churning dozens of miniatures who all look the bloody same, while trying to get the right historical shade and making sure all the little details are just right. I mean it should be easier with the limited pallet but it gets boring really quick.

Irregulars with lots of different coloured clothes and such like might take longer but are easier to keep up the interest levels on. Fantasy/sci-fi is even better as I can't really paint it "wrong" and can let my imagination run riot.

bruntonboy29 Dec 2016 2:42 p.m. PST

Tricorne hat lace, tartans, parallel striped trousers and checks. Hussars are a special dislike.

Everything.

Dashetal29 Dec 2016 7:16 p.m. PST

I agree with the horse haters. For some reason they seem to take forever. I dont know why they elicit that feeling in me but they do.
