So I'm diving back into miniatures (30k) after a 3 year self imposed absence. I'll be doing almost exclusively FW resin minis and a few metals or plastics thrown in. I've always washed my plastic and metal minis but in the past recently I've read that FW minis are particularly greasy and need what's been described as a "vigorous scrubbing". My question is, I obviously don't want to damage any of the detail on the resin so how much of a washing do these minis require? Do they actually need scrubbing or brushing or will a gentle bubble bath suffice? Cheers. |

I use an old soft toothbrush and some liquid hand soap and wash as I would any plastic, metal or resin. You will not destroy any details on the model. Matthew |

Thank 45. That's exactly how I did my playin and metal mini prep. |

None of my Forge World figures have needed any kind of scrubbing. I just soak them in soapy water and rinse them off. They paint up just fine. |

I had a few surfaces that would not take paint or much of anything else back when FW still made things I was interested in, but for the most part their surfaces take pre-paint treatment just fine. |

Here is a picture of a Forge World model that was simply soaked in soapy water and rinsed before being painted:

It only takes a few seconds to scrub and rinse. Maybe it's a habit with me, but I would rather take the time. I also get a chance to look at what details there are that I might not have noticed before. I am pretty sure that primer would stick to the resin through and release agent being used today. That may be why the soap water and rinse works. |
