I asked this earlier in an on-going thread, but perhaps a fresh thread of its own that pops up on the front page may help find an answerer….

My google-fu has failed at turning up armour pentration abilities of the 105mm gun on the SAV m/43 (Sweden's cute Hetzer-like assault gun). The only thing I could turn up was this cryptic data line from World of Tanks:
10,5 cm kan m/44 sav Penetration 65/110/53

Can any WOTters translate that into actual ranges?

Specifically, I'm trying to find out what the Kan m/44 can penetrate at 500m if anyone has that info.

This page:

ointres.se/sav_m43.htm

indicates that AP shells were available. Unfortunately it also says that it was a new gun design. Barrel length is 21 calibers, vice 22 calibers for the kan m/40 10.5cm, so if you can find penetration data for that (more common) gun, you can estimate the values for the m/44.

Thanks — that's a very helpful page!

That WOT stat line reflects penetration for different ammo types:

regular/APCR/HE

Not sure what range this pen is supposed to reflect but then again WOT is not exactly a hard core combat sim.

Maybe this will help:

See 105mm entry: 10,5 cm le F H 18 (L/28)

German light field howitzer 105 mm leFH 18
ww2-weapons.com/105-mm-lefh-18

The Bofors 10,5 cm kan ikv 103: the gun on the ikv 103, firing a mid-60's HEAT round had a penetration of about 350mm.

The German 105 has a longer barrel so better penetration than the Bofors.

Go here and ask the writer: tanks.mod16.org

In the Reference section there are official hand books that you can download showing all of the ammunition for each of the guns. There's an actual solid-shot AP round for this cannon, and it's very odd. So short that the length and diameter are almost identical! Unfortunately, I couldn't find penetration numbers.

It looks like a projectile mass of 11.67 kg, at a muzzle velocity of 475 meters / second. This page:

gives an estimated penetration of 66mm. YMMV.

Well that pretty well matches the WoT number of 65.

Mobius28 Dec 2016 11:24 a.m. PST

The US 105mm/L22 M2A1 howitzer has a muzzle velocity of 472 m/s. That is for HE. AP would weigh a bit more so it's velocity may be less, but the US had no AP.
