I picked up an army lot of SYW French off of Ebay. I have some flags that I'm trying to identify and am striking out. I went through all of the regiments at the Kronoskaf Seven Years War project without success: link Here's a picture of the flags in question: [URL=http://s1326.photobucket.com/user/Skragnon/media/IMG_20161226_134717_zpscrup3gy9.jpg.html]

From left to right : Dauphin (Colonel), probably Royal Baviere (Ordonnance), possibly du Roy (missing centre object), not sure of this (see below), Conti or Chaligny (Ord) – colours not quite as I have them but closest I can find. I'm sure I have seen #4 before but can't find any match in my stuff. It may be Haynault but the red should be pink if it is. Another wild guess is that it is a hashed up Zurlaben. Final guess a militia regiment or one only existing for a short time. |

The one on the far right is Rgt Orleans (Ordonnance), next Rgt Hainant (Ordonance), next Rgt D'Eu (Colonels), next Brendle (colonels) and far left Dauphin (Colonels) I think these are right, I consulted the Warflag file I used for my own French. |

Agree with GF, though I think flag 2 (L to R) is a poorly done Colonel's colour for Royal Baviere in a similar style to the Colonel's colour for Dauphin (1). I think Haynault is the closest match for 4. 5 could be an upside-down Languedoc, or Regt Royal (minus the fleur de lys on the cross), but looks most like Orleans (Ordnance). |

The #4 is definitely Hainault, with the "wrong" red in place of aurore as reported in Leinhart and Humber. The #5 seems Orleans also to me. |

Thank you. The first three work as Colonel flags. The army has all three of those regiments so it follows. Haynault works. The description I read indicates it should be a light orange and blue (which matches the colors). The orientation of the cantons are switched, but otherwise is good. My reference image indicates yellow and I failed to read the description that went with it. link I had a suggestion for Orleans for the last flag (the brown is too light): link I appreciate the help. |

The last flag could be Conde, which had light buff on top at the pole (I used "linen"). Orleans was more a dark brown, on the lower quarter at the pole. GdeP |

5 could be Conde except the orientation of the colours is reversed, if it is meant to be Orleans then the colour is way out – I think it is feuilles mort (dead leaves) and I can't remember the name they give to the 'cappuchino' colour it appears to be here. Brendle was my 1st answer until I realised that name was pre-7YW – Seedorf or Vigier may be that regiment later but I didn't have dates for those names. Royal Baviere fits better in both design and date, not perfect but these flags all seem to be 'interpretations'. 4 could be a number of 'wrong' flags but could find no better match as I couldn't read the lettering – knowing that might pin it down. d'Eu is plain red and yellow in my sources though the yellow may be one of the various paler colours popular at the time. The design of 3 implies a royal regiment though. |
