…‘Prometheus' Follow-Up.

"20th Century Fox has unveiled the first trailer for director Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, and it is downright terrifying. While the filmmaker originally intended for his Prometheus follow-up to focus on the further adventures of Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth and Michael Fassbender's David, he subsequently opted to go a different direction. Covenant finds Fassbender reprising his role as the android who is now the sole inhabitant of an "uncharted paradise" which is visited by the crew of the colony ship Covenant.

What I really like about the Alien: Covenant trailer is it doesn't ruin the movie. Too often Hollywood releases a trailer that spells out the entire film and you can pretty much guess every twist and turn. You know what this Alien: Covenant trailer is telling me? A. Get ready to be scared and B. This is not going to be a PG-13 movie. While we only see glimpses of the carnage to come, a few weeks ago I got to see a few scenes from the movie at a 2017 press event at FOX and watched as the new aliens (Neomorphs) tore people to pieces. We're talking brutal carnage and tons of blood. I loved every second of it. For a more detailed recap of the footage,…"

Really tired of this franchise. Guts and lavish slaughter do not equal superior film. It jumped the shark after ALIENS and has never regained a proper foothold.

Further adventures of Rapace and Fassbender?
Translation: No one had any intent of reliving the abortion that was Prometheus and they told Scott to change up the concept or go home.

I can take a serious guess as to how this film will play out:

A bleep-bloop happens and the Ship, all alone, goes to investigate, we are left to watch as the crew suffers the usual pitfalls as Fassbender stares along in rapture as carnage erupts from curious stupidity, the ubiquitous soft sensual tryst is disrupted by brutal strength of ALIEN hate of soft pink flesh, and blood flows as everyone runs around and the conventional weaponry fails on all fronts to remove the danger. Through it all we are left watching as the leader of the characters has conversations about calling it quits while crew are dropping left and right and finally only some small fraction remain. They strike a heaving blow for humanity or die in the attempt. Regardless, some sort of agenda is fulfilled.

I liked "Alien" and thought "Aliens" was one of the few sequels better than the original movie. But, I agree, most of what came after was just cashing in trashing in…will I still see this…probably…maybe on Demand…

When I went to see Prometheus, I was terribly let down. My expectations were off the scale. I thought that the script and most of the characters were unbelievably horrible, but I found in the days following seeing it, that I was often thinking about the mystery of the engineers. I was intrigued them, and realized that the visual beauty of the movie, combined with the soundtrack had made it enjoyable, despite the less than 50th percentile, reality show characters.

I watched the movie again, when it came out on video, with no preconceptions or expectations, simply accepting what it offered, and that the atmosphere of the movie really did captivate me in the way the characters failed to. The visuals, the soundtrack, and the mystery of the engineers were enough. Enough to make me hopeful that they would turn the next movie into something more than Prometheus.

My hope was that the next movie would move away from the horror aspect more, and capitalize on the mystery of the engineers. Not that I wouldn't expect some blood and guts, critters doing what they do. But to be honest, this trailer holds nothing for me. Based on the trailer, I wouldn't walk across this room to see it.

I waited till Prometheus was out on DVD since I heard it was crap. And crap it was. Sad too since just a little more care with the script would have taken care of the problems.

Looks like a reprise of the original Alien. The trailer looks good & I'll go and see it; it can't be any worse than Prometheus, which was largely a wasted opportunity.

Oh, no. You won't fool me again, Mr. Scott. Not after Prometheus, and Blackhawk Down.

Ugh. It's incredibly rare for a franchise to inspire such a following on the basis of two films. Alien was one of those. It was sad to see it squandered, and even worse to see its corpse being looted like this.

Looks like the same old same old to me. I am more than done with this franchise!

I have expressly forbidden any of offspring to watch any Aliens movie after "Aliens". It is one of my greatest gifts to them. Two great movies – ruined by sequeals.

But still hope springs eternal. Of the follow ons Prometheus was at least watchable (though not recommended). Maybe this time….

Oh no…

Prometheus always felt like there was half a great movie hidden in there.

The visuals, the atmosphere and the under-stated plot all work very well, but the characters are bad and the second half becomes a bit of a mess.
