Did they even use TOWs, excepting for on their late, Jaguar II? Milan and HOT seem to be far more ubiquitous to me, though I know they did eventually use the TOW on their panzerjaegers. Troops should be prone, or kneeling, unless they're firing over a wall. |

These are the only vehicles I can think of that the West Germans mounted TOW's on. JgPz Jaguar II MaK Wiesel I Kraka ATV Rh202 As far as Ground mounting them, I never saw it in my five years over there during the Cold War. Yes we normally went to a kneeling position when firing it when dismounted from our M-901's. |

Thanks for the reply. Yea, I've never seen a dismounted, West German TOW team. Of course, we do know the TOWs can be dismounted, if desired, but I suspect that would rarely, if ever be done in practice. |

Hah! Did a double-take when I saw the thread title. It is too close to the New Years Eve holiday, at first glance I read it as "Budweiser TOW Team". Too bad they didn't model their Wagon and Clydesdale transport vehicle. Anyway, nicely modeled. |

"Of course, we do know the TOW's can be dismounted, if desired, but I suspect that would rarely, if ever be done in practice." No not really. We as Cav Scouts on M-901's TOW Jeep's and TOW Humvee's did about 50% of our TOW drills dismounted. Move out from the vehicle Set it up. Tear down, and move to a alternate location. Remount it on the vehicle. Our old GDP potions on the West/East German Boarder had a number of primary positions. and each of the mounted potions (M-901) had approximately three dismounted potions near by. We would start at the dismounted potion farthest away from the M-901. Fire a Missile, break down move approximately 100 meters set up. Fire a Missile, break down move approximately 100 meters set up. Fire a Missile, break down move approximately 100 meters set up. Break down move approximately 100 meters back to the M-901 reinstate the Sights, M.G.S., the launcher was still loaded with two Missiles. Fire those Two and try to get the hell back to the next deference potions (next ridge line to the west) and live to tell about it. We train on this mission all the time. And I know our AT Plt. did as well. So using it in the dismounted mode was a normal operation for us. Same thing for the Jeep and Humvee mounted ones. |

The Jag 2 had the equipment to dismount the system. We ran across a Jag 2 unit on REFORGER once and were comparing our M901's to it. Had a great time chatting shop with the Germans. They rarely if ever dismounted it. The Germman Sgt said it took to long. Lol |

Yea that's how most M-901 crews felt about dismounting the TOW. It was a pain in training doing those TOW dismount drills. And always doing it at the run/sprint, as it was a timed drill. PS CavScout8thCav when were you in the 8th CAV? And was it 3/8 CAV? If so I was next doorat Coleman Bks. Mannheim Germany in the Scout Plt, CSC, 2/13th INF. from Sept of 80 – Sept 82. |
