Seems like these are our choices . . . Foundry already produced masters that did not go into production - very little demand at the time: link They may change their minds if they receive sufficient requests via email. Contact Bernard or Matt. Eureka has expressed interest to start them on their 100 Club. They need to see emails from interested parties. Email Nic. Conquest Miniatures has a thread on their yahoo group to discuss how much interest there is on the subject. Eric at Conquest has basic (nude) figures that could easily be converted. He needs to see interest via email or on the yahoo group. All action by the manufacturers will depend on how much interest is expressed by potential buyers, particularly via direct emails. |

"Very little demand at the time." How the hell did they figure that out? Foundry's marketing "strategy" [now THAT'S being generous!] has nothing to do with "demand". It's all controlled by random dice rolling... |

Just to clarify, I plan on doing them as part of the 500 nations line, as that line is meant to cover all indigenous peoples of the Americas, eventually. If you would like for us to do them in the immediate future, I would like your feedback at least and as my resources are limited, any good plates or ideas. Like arturo rex said, we have naked matrixes already, and it would only be a matter of adding the appropriate weapons and clothing, or lack of clothing. -Eric |

Noting the Foundry pre-re-release packs, do they really care about demand? Last year, there was a "deal" (forgive me if I forget the nomenclature of that particular "deal") which included 2 packs of Plains War US Infantry, llamas and doors and windows. I think that there were also some short Landsknecht Orcs and Street violence figures in that "deal" also. Foundry's policy seems to be "If we cast it, they will buy". IF, as commonly stated, they believe that they are selling to "collectors", and not wargamers, that their main market is those with standing orders to buy everything that comes out, what difference does it make if there is "little demand"? That's why ranges like ACW and Biblicals vanish and reappear with gay abandon, because demand is irelevant. |

Put another "r" in "irelevant" up there. Please forgive me and accept my abject apologies. |

If not interested in Foundry making them, then there are still two other viable choices for the "Caribs": Eureka and Conquest Miniatures. With them, demand is indeed a factor. Though the figures would require very little modification to the basic "matrixes", they must still see what interest is out there. |

I wish someone would do that "500 Nations" business with Africa! Every tribe! Coo... Just think, all the Nandi, Kikuyu and Turkana you can eat! I know we're spoiled rotten for choice as it is (I mean who'd've thought you'd ever be able to buy Ngoni, for Pete's sake?), but you can't help wanting the stuff that nobody makes! |

Mark Copplestone *was* doing essentially that... |

Eric, When I get a chance, I will also scan for you a few pictures and text of Arawaks/Caribs from: Osprey MMA-288, American Indians of the Southeast Osprey Warrior 40, The Conquistador, and the plates of Ian Heath's "Armies of the 16th Century: Armies of the Aztecs, the Incas, other native peoples of the Americas and Spanish America, 1450-1608". Well worth the investment if what you are after is the native peoples of that specific period. (ISBN: 1 901543 03 X) |

While all this is being resolved, by Conquest Miniatures, Eureka or whomever, I am using converted Foundry Darkest Africa loincloth wearing tribesmen as substitute. Longer hair and wooden swords and javelins added to the bows are doing the trick . . . for now . . . until I can get my hands on 60 or so real Arawaks/Caribs. |

I use Old Glory "Cannibals" for Tainos/ Caribes/ Tupis/ Guarani/ Jivaro/ Yanomamo, "you-name-it", etc
. They are "OK" if you are not snobbish. However, you can paint them according to what you think a specific tribe should look like. You can either leave the trophy skulls on the figures or cut them off, or even make them into dark shrunk heads "Jivaro-style." They have a nice Henry V haircut and a few have blowguns. You can add anything you like for weapons, bows, macanas, flint knives etc. There is also a canoe and assorted figures including a prisoner being cooked! (This is "gaming" after all

Wow ! Abe Books has the Heath book for $11.00 USD Canadian?(that's about $9.00 USD US) Everyone interested in 16th Century New World colonialism must have this book. Have I been direct enough? I have read mine cover to cover, and while there are some small errors, it is indispensible. Sign me up for 50 figures of the Foundry/500 nations/Eureka figures. What has the best chance of getting done? If Eric has naked matrices already would he be amenable to a 100 club like one-off casting run? Ralph |
