Anyone read this yet? link His "Atlas" got some scathing reviews on Amazon, so I wonder. |
YogiBearMinis | 23 Dec 2016 1:40 p.m. PST |
That looks like a copyright-violating, self-published work. Grab it while you can before the Tolkien estate shuts him down. |

Doubt that will happen. He's written a number of Tolkien-related works over the years. I don't think copyright covers works about an author or his books. |

David Day does some wonderful drawings. Mainly Elves that he captures very well. Was involved with the Tolkien Bestiary a long time ago, so I think he is Pukka as far as legitamacy goes. |

What kropotkin said. I have had his bestiary for years. John T |

I can sum up Battles in Tolkien in one phrase: deus ex machina. Somebody always shows up in the nick of time. Eagles, Riders of Rohan, eagles, and Eagles. |

I think you can slip Army of Ghosts amongst the eagles too. |

The link shows the book as a "pre-order". Does that mean it hasn't been released to the public yet? I'd be interested in a review also. I'm interested in all things Tolkien. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 24 Dec 2016 10:52 p.m. PST |
One site showed it as out in October. |

The link shows the book as a "pre-order" Some publishers are friendly to smaller companies. Those get the book a month or two early. Also, if it was released in the UK, they tend to have theirs on Amazon UK a month or two before Amazon US. |

One positive effect of the movies is that they spurred a flood of new publication (and some very welcome reprints). Lots of lightweight fluff,of course, but some worthwhile work, too. Getting hard to keep up,though. |

David Day's Tolkien Bestiary (1979) is one of the finest Tolkien related books ever written. His text, many other people did the illustrations. His "tragedy" is that he has recycled this material again and again – this is no different : the picture on the cover is from the Bestiary. Having said that – I have had my eye on the Atlas (which does have new maps) for a while: if it gets cheap enough. I'd quite like the other two as well simply because I like the bindings! Again – if they were really cheap! |

Amazon UK has the Atlas for £7.00 GBP(you are UK,right?). You might want to read these reviews first, though. Those were what made me post the original question. link I concur with the recommendation of Fonstad--excellent Atlas. I think I misread one of the websites--apparently publication will be next March. |

Ooh… they can now do better than £7.00 GBP! £3.20 GBP for the atlas and for battles £2.66 GBP for the dictionary. Plus £2.80 GBP post each of course, but I can get all 3 for a little under £18.00 GBP Not bad. His Edgar Rice Burroughs Bestiary is also very good – and Amazon have second hand copies from 1 penny – £2.81 GBP with post! |
