Late 2016 already: time to have a break from miniatures painting over the festive season, and look back at these last few months output.

So here the 1st battalion of the 35th line infantry regiment circa 1813.

Thanks for looking!

Nice job, compliments.
Calpe, are my favourite miniatures.

Lovely work! I am a big fan of Calpe and have 8 battalions of these to paint up myself. I'll be referencing your blog when I do.
Thanks for posting.

Very nice! I picked up some Calpe too, to add some flavour to my plastic minis from Perry. It worked out really well.

Thanks for the feedback!

yep, you can't beat a Calpe range in terms of diversity and details. Only slightly chunkier than their Perry counterparts.

May I kindly ask what paints and colors you used? It's not on your blog.

You really need to post a quick tutorial on how you do greatcoats. Just fantastic.

I love these, and was looking at the Calpe French just the day before yesterday thinking I might need a few more.

thanks again for the kind feedback.

I'll give a few quick tips here. I am using Vallejo Model Color paints only.

0. I base coat in 'sky grey'
1. I block in the basic colours. Most importantly, I either paint the greatcoats in 'buff' or leave them grey. I paint trousers in 'offwhite' (but leave all belts in grey). I paint faces/hands in 'flat flesh'
2. all over I apply a 'sepia shade' wash
3. I go back to the initial colours: 'sky grey' for grey greatcoats, 'buff' for buff greatcoats, 'offwhite' for trousers, 'flat flesh' for faces. No further highlights.
4. By then all belts are off-grey, which is still a sufficient basecoat for a single coat of white.
5. blue uniforms: 'dark prussian blue' with a 'prussian blue' highlight.

It's probably not as fancy as the "three layers" technique but it works well for me. It's also quite fast.
