Seems the Zumwalt class isn't living up to its billing, and costs continue to spiral out of control, as the unaffordability of ammunition hamstrings the badly flawed design:

Just a larger, more expensive version of the LCS failure.

This is not the F-35 in another costume is it? Seems like the current leadership, at all levels, has spent more time lining up their retirement options than getting equipment that actually does the job.

From the NRO? Written by Mike Fredenburg? Neither have any credibility when it comes to military matters. Fredenburg wouldn't happy until the USN starts building 74 gun SOLs….

He certainly would not approve of anything using this new fangled propellor thingy.

I don't know the specifics but much the same thing was said of the Abrams and the Bradley and they have done pretty well. Could it be that teething pains get more expensive as technology gets more sophisticated? I am just saying, not trying to explain it away. It could be that it is a very expensive boondoggle. It is usually not as simple as it seems but sometimes it is. OK, I will get off the fence, getting sore.

I'm sure new technology has increased the costs but I also believe the companies know the military is not going to back out of these programs so why not run up the costs. Honestly, some issues will arise but we have way too many that are costly.

Apparently the Fiscal times author does not know the difference between the Zumwalt and the Sea Jet.
