I finally got my copy of "The Men Who Would Be Kings" and decided to learn the rules while using the solo play option in the back of the book. One third rules summary, one third game, and one third opinion is what makes up this post.

Enjoy!

That's well done Phil;
I have just picked up the rules too.
I have some 20mm plastic Brits and Zulus, it's time to get them out and on the table.
Thanks for posting;
Joe

Thanks Phil – would the rules work for my 15mm figs based 3 or 4 on a stand? eg, cd I treat each stand as a single fig and would that work fine?

Thanks Phil, very helpful! I purchased the rules and hopefully will get around to playing a solo game soon!

" Once pinned a unit has to attempt to rally(which causes them to shake the markers, retreat a half move or rout)"

Shake the markers?

Thank you very much for the review, I think you've sealed my purchase.

That'd be NMP (Natal Mounted Police), not NNH (Natal Native Horse).

Joep123, I can field my Brits against your Zulu plus my Zulu…Lets make it happen. I miss gaming with you…

Bought the PDF. Read it. Might have a lot of potential for "not-armies, not-skirmish" niche.

Thanks guys for all the comments! Durban I can see no reason why you couldn't use your 15mm figs. the Game suggests 12 men in a regular unit and 16 in a tribal cant see how you just couldn't use the many bases. They also have rules to play smaller games 6 men per unit so that could work too.
Major B i guess remove the pinned markers would be a better way to say it.
And Martini you are correct NNP would be more accurate, though I actually painted them to be the Natal Hussars back when I first did them up

Hey Stepman3;
You're on.
After the holidays.
Also want to try a game of this with my 15mm US Cavalry and Plains Indians.

So today I stumbled across a review of Rogue Stars and I really liked what I read about the rules. So I go to Amazon and throw it in the cart. Then I think, "Hmmm what's that other Osprey game I was interested in…Men would Kings or something. I know I'll just look on TMP for a review and maybe throw that in the cart too."

This sealed the deal. If my wife asks, I'm throwing you under the bus. :p
