Hi all, Not seeing much on the new who minis. I wonder what people's thoughts on them are. From what I see there are the two doc/companion boxes and 3 enemy grunt boxes. Grunt tetraps and a pladtic new cymermen seem to be on the way along with daleks (with rules?) And a cybermen set featuring differant makes. I think thats it. For me its exiting, if expensive (in relation to my own pocket). I did like the 75mm? Figs with the mags but they were much more in cost and you would have to pick through bad paint jobs. Plus, at this scale, storage is no issue. I would like to know how they are being made. Metal is suggested with up coming bigger boxes of plastic grunts. However it looks like they may be die cast, ie a steel mould, as opposed to centrifuge silicon moulds. This would explain the flat, board game look and that the characters have plastic bases with debossed names. Why do plastic speacilty bases and not steel moulded figs. Also it sounds like they take time to get to warlord hq,may I guess from china? Thay also seem to be computer "sculpts" (hak, spit, ting) again suggesting steel moulds. For the characters and modern baddies this may be correct, due to high expectations. Though I would think the tetraps (spelling?) Are most likley silicon moulds as,even though its classic (ie good) it may not sell millions. Last point choice of figs. 2 modern boxes? I thought the latest and a first,or tom baker would have been better. The10th is popular I guess, but its a slap in the face to classic fans. And the tetrap? Really? A great figure Im sure, but in the first wave? Really? At least they are testing things with the new stuff I guess. They have time to work out the kinks. And cyberman look close. If anyone needs some painted let me know (shameless plug) link If any one knows whats going on, or have your own guesses, please post them. Cheers. |

Ps. The pic of the dalek test frame is a worry. One has a missing bit at the base of the plunger and several have slat damadge. The assembled one looks like a bad fit also. This is where you tell the factory to fix the problems, you don't post a picture! The fact they are modern darleks is also odd and with no movement or upggade possibilities. They should have been multi part and used as a base for all daleks, swapping the domes, arms, bumpers for metal options. Missed oppertunity. Although at least classics may be all metal, or entire new plastic kits. Not sure which would be best. Any ideas? Their product and marketing design is truly weird. |

Rules will be out in summer i think, metals and plastics for the figures which are 38mm. But for a tabletop game having figures out before the rules is damm weird. I`m guessing its BBC behind that. |

Who is making them? Do you have a link? |

doctorwhotimevortex.com They are by warlord games. With the odd choice of the tetraps, perhaps they are using them to test sales? If they can sell 10,000 tetraps they know they will sell 10,000 davros or dominators (and maybe 500 candyman). Then again a lot of the stuff would allready be ordered. |

Hmmm… From reading the new interview with Paul Sawyer it looks like the figs are being produced in the uk. Also the flatness/plainness seems to be from them being one piece casts. And those darn tetraps? Most likely because of approval times from actors, the costumed monsters are quicker to approve, I assume. So where are our Krotons????!!! And lets not for get the Dynatrope. The least they could do is release a box 'o Quarks! New Who is holding up the works, first in first served, I say, cavemen already! |

Ah ha. For those who care (see the pun?). Thanks to some foreign video I have learnt a few things. The models do appear to be spin cast metal. Also the bases with the character names are integral (molded on) metal. Then there are extra 25?mm round plastic bases that appear to be square edged and grey. There you go. |
