Hi Folks,

Can Anyone tell me if Victrix plastic figure material or design have improved in recent years to eradicate or at least minimise the broken bayonet syndrome?

Cheers

All my stuff is old Victrix and let's just say it is a good thing I have a lot of spares because I get a lot of breakage compared to the Perry ones I have – which have seen zero breakages.

Have you ever tried Hard Coat Mod Podge? I have not, so this is not an endorsement, I was just curious if it will help protect plastic bayonets (or lead ones, for that matter!) from breakage.

All the bayonets I have broken off from Victrix are replaced with scrubbing brush plastic bristle, clean side of musket glue on trimmed bristle paint silver, the have a bit of give haven't had one come off from the repair, heck I might do the whole lot just to save doing them in bits and drabs. Just select a brush with the right size for the bayonets.

Thanks for the response guys.

Zargon, neat idea for replacing broken ones.

For a new set, I wonder if coating the bayonets in a layer of superglue while still on the sprue will bring the durability up a notch. Gotta try this.

And if that does not work so well, then maybe a couple of layers of Finish floor polish. That acrylic coating becomes unbelieveably durable after it sets.

When a Victrix bayonet breaks off, I file the muzzle of the musket flat at an angle, and do the same with the bayonet. I have new liquid plastic "glue," and it works great. The bond is much stronger, for the thin link from musket to bayonet is gone.

The separate British musket on each of 4 sprues for their infantry is especially fragile, so I cut the bayonet off, file them, re-attach, and am ready to go!

If I lose the bayonet of a Voltigeur or grenadier, I let it go, for the short sword and bayonet frogs already have a bayonet in the sheath.

They're just wargame "toys' after all!

Sharp intake of breath here, Garde – that smacks dangerously of laissez-faire…
