Back in October I ran my Danger Zone rules at What Khan for the first time publicly.

Since then, I've taken the feedback from the show, tightened up the last few rules, and am looking for open playtesters.

I've put together a kit for people to try out and would like to ask for people who have time to play the game and give me feedback from how it goes so I can revise and clarify based on players in the wild.

This is a Mercenary Air Combat game set in a secret history of the Cold War. Area 88 was a huge influence on the rules, so if you are familiar with that, this will be of interest. The test kit includes F86Fs, F100As, DeHavilland Vampires, Dassault Ouragans, MiG15s and MiG17s. This test kit focuses on gun combat in the 1950s as a future test will include missile combat in the 60s. I think I have it pretty much there but need people to give it a whirl.

This is a light air combat game meant for people who want to get the feel of air combat with lots of planes on a table, so if you are looking for a meticulous simulation of true air combat, you might be disappointed. However, I do model the aircraft on their historic counterparts, and the stats are derived from research on real world stats. Guns have the right amount of ammo and hit with the right amount of oomph. The play tests I've had so far have been a blast, with good results from combats.

The basics of the game are-
There is no pre-planning of moves
More experienced pilots have an advantage over less experienced pilots.
Aircraft design has an impact on combat, but pilots win battles.
Keep charts to a minimum
Pilots gain experience over time that increases their ability to fly and fight.
Allow players to fly and fight at squadron level strength

If you are interested, send me a PM and I will be sending out kits on Friday as a PDF via email.

I'm happy to answer questions.

I would be happy to playtest the rules. I am a long time Airhead, 40 years since I picked up the game Air Force, and love trying some thing new. And your playtest had Venoms so you have good taste. ;)

Unfortunately not being a supporting member I can't PM you. However my Email is fatman_bear1@yahoo.co.uk

AIR WAR! You have my sympathies. I don't think we ever finished a game of that. Air Superiority was complex but at least it was playable. I have may fond memories of F&P but it wasn't really a good game. Fun but not good. :)

Considering that I did my own mercenary air game (Wild Blue), I'm definitely interested in seeing and trying new developments. May I please see Danger Zone? eagle707@bellsouth.net

Hello TGerritsen!
It seems i come a little bit late, but i would like to take a part in the playtest as well. I have some experience in C21 and F2R.

Either way keep us informed about your progress on the game!

Hey there! Looks like a really good idea; I've always wanted a game to play "Ace Combat" on the board, reflecting more the skill of the pilot than the plane but "Typhoon!" was too little and "Airwar C21" bogs down on game speed quite easily (and too much record keeping). Any advance on how the system would be like? And could I help with the beta? I mostly have 1990-2000 planes but I can use them as proxies just for the beta.

Anyway keep up the good work and keep us informed please, this might be a game changer for jet wargames! If you want anything just contact me at karlosrolero@hotmail.com

Any word about getting a link? I would certainly like to check out the rules.
