What would be a good name for a Renaissance-themed mercenary outfit? I was thinking of a color scheme predominately using madder red (which I rather need a Vallejo color for, btw), and is a combined arms force. |

Blood Brotherhood Devils Men Using names in direct contrast to the typical ethics was not unknown, thus the common usage of "Black" for several bands. As yours are red, "Red Band" would probably be the unimaginative but likely name (as in Black Band, Black Guard, Grote Guard). Some did claim at least gods grace, like the "Gods friend, worlds enemy" to say it with Störtebekers Vitalienbrüder. BTW: Red works quite well with Black and/or Yellow. Good choise – remember to post pics :-) |

It was common in late medieval times to refer to themselves as a company. The White company was a mercenary unit in 14th century Italy led by the English knight Sir John Hawkwood. Perhaps the Red Company or the Crimson, Scarlet or Sanguine Company . . . |

Pretty clearly the Red Company, but in the appropriate language--Banda Carmine? Rote Kompanie? They'd be known informally as The Devil's Blood, or what have you, but that's not the name which would go on the contract. |

The Red Company, The Legion of Hell, The Red Saints, that's what I've got. If you have a specific ethnic group in the majority you could append it to the end or middle of the name ie. The Red Company of Gascons, The Scotts Legion of Hell, the Red Saints of Savoy etc. |

The name I use across a range of periods is the Empty Hearts. It's an easy icon to paint and the name is short enought to fit on a banner or whatever. Some Google translations German – Die leeren Herzen Italian – I cuori vuoti Spanish – Los corazones vacíos Dutch – De lege harten French – Les coeurs vides |
