A possibility? Do you field any? Scroll down to Horse Mounted Warriors link |

Very interesting article, thanks for posting it. My feeling is that horse mounted warriors would have been likely used as scouts and couriers rather than actual cavalry. But then there is so much about Bronze Age warfare that is just guess work. |

One of the post Homeric contributors to the epic of the Trojan War was Quintus of Smyrna. Even more anachronistic than Homer, he probably wrote in the fifth century AD. He mentions no chariots at all but does mention cavalry a lot. Take that with a grain of salt. |

Historically? I have to agree with Nic – they were probably used as scouts and couriers. Besides, no stirrups or saddles would make cavalry charges quite difficult (yes, not impossible but difficult). Also, if Drews is correct, horse cavalry would be vulnerable to javelin armed infantry of 'fast foot' just as the chariots supposedly were. Wargaming? Yep, I plan to field a troop or two of Mycenaean cavalry, along with a troop or two of Amazonian-esque cavalry, along with archer chariots. |

Is it me or was one of those chariots being drawn by "horses" with paws rather than hooves? |

@ Swampking Love your response. You're a wargamer after my own heart! |

@ Ochoin, Thanks! I'm a bit strange I've found. I love fielding massive armies, hence the current 'Trojan War-esque' project will probably be my last but it will be massive. Since I'm doing 15mm, I decided that it would be best to field Wilusians and its allies using Donnington, OG15s, Magister Militum, Essex, and Lancashire, with around 80 chariots, and 1200 infantry. The Mycenaeans will be around the same (80 chariots and 1200 infantry) but exclusively OG15s and Museum. I don't think it'll be historical but it'll look great once both armies are finished. There's still some debate over what the Mycenaeans used their chariots for. To me, it seems a huge expense for just a 'battle taxi', so I've decided to make them archer or javelin chariots instead of 'lancer'. Again, not sure how historical it'll be. The Amazonian cavalry will have to be converted, as will the Amazonian chariots (Black Raven Foundry has them but they are drawn by unicorns) but I didn't see the point of doing a project like this without having Amazons. I still don't know what rules I'll use but I've based the armies around squadrons of 4 chariot models with skirmishers and light and medium infantry in 'warbands' of 20 figures. |

My Trojan army doesn't have any horse riders, but their Amazon allies do. |

In 28mm Redoubt has some Trojan cavalry. |

There are Bronze Age cavalry in various scales but I think ochoin normally games in 20mm, so I guess he'll have to convert figures if he wants Mycenaean cavalry, just like I'll have to convert figures for my 15mm Amazons. It's such a shame that there really are no 15mm manufacturers that have had the vision that the Redoubt or Foundry Trojan Wars ranges have. While there are many makers of 'Trojan War' figures in 15mm, the 'character' isn't there. As Jed Clampett would say, the situation is "pitiful, just pitiful". |
