Just got back from viewing the movie.

I know a guy.

Wasn't a big fan of the last one, but this one I can highly recommend.

Don't want to spoil it for anyone, but it is quite good. I want to see it again, and I'd say it is one of the top three movies in the Star Wars saga franchise.

I look forward to seeing what other reviewers/viewers think, once it is released.

thumbs up

I'm really looking forward to it – the trailers have looked wonderful. It seems like they've recaptured the epic space opera feel of the original movies that got a bit lost in the prequels.

Mako1114 Dec 2016 3:25 a.m. PST

Yea, I rate this one right up their with Episodes 4 and 5, A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, respectively.

KTravlos14 Dec 2016 4:39 a.m. PST

glad you liked it.

CATenWolde14 Dec 2016 9:08 a.m. PST

It opened today here in Helsinki, and my son went to see it without me … :( … but he said it was great!

Unless you somehow got into the Los Angeles premiere on Saturday, I don't think it is available yet stateside, at least legally speaking.

richarDISNEY14 Dec 2016 12:07 p.m. PST

Was there any post credit scenes? I'm seeing it Friday Morning.

An extremely nice viewing experience!

Great characters, nice choice of actors, convincing sets and costumes. And a great story with just suitably few nods to the previous movies.

My biggest "grievance" was that the female lead (Felicity Jones) looks rather much like young Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), If the movie's problems are that caliber, you should be able to enjoy it however critical you are. It beat the Force Awakens hands down (and that was a pretty OK one, unlike the Episodes I-III).

Also, unlike E7 most action scenes tended to be reasonably believable. Not much more crew was used in these but perhaps it helped that you had just small forces available instead of the whole darn Rebellion.

Totally with Mako11's assessment about it.

Really looking forward to it now!

I know a person who works for ILM, so got to see a pre-premiere showing in SF.

They reserved the entire theater complex for employees, family, and friends of the people who created/produced the movie.

FLGS arranged a special screening Thursday night!

The Beast Rampant14 Dec 2016 10:44 p.m. PST

The prequels gutted my SW enthusiasm. I found Ep 7 to be "OK". But every time I see another trailer for R1, I get a little bit more hopeful and excited.

Captain Gideon15 Dec 2016 8:49 a.m. PST

The Beast Rampant the prequels were fine with me and I'm very excited about Rogue One.

I love Star Wars completely. I loved the last twenty minutes, and liked the preceeding 100 minutes. Seeing it again tonight and may end up liking those hundred more…but I'm not sure.

I admire the prequels, and as a film experience I'd happily rate R1 over them however.

wminsing16 Dec 2016 11:06 a.m. PST

Agreed it is an excellent Star Wars movie, it might even be the BEST Star Wars movie, I'm still internally debating that one. But it was familiar in all the ways it should have been and was different in all the ways it needed to be. Great movie!

Who could ask for more than that?

And super bonus points for greeblieing up that eight-track cartridge!!!!!

Disco Joe16 Dec 2016 3:44 p.m. PST

I enjoyed it. It was much better than last years The Force Awakens.

McWong7316 Dec 2016 6:51 p.m. PST

Saw it again, definitely came out loving it. Still has some rough bits, but a worthy addition to the StarWars movies.

Howler16 Dec 2016 9:33 p.m. PST

Plan to see it next week when my son visits.

Redhugh17 Dec 2016 7:13 a.m. PST

I played a group of rebels hunting down the death star plans back in college when West End Games released the D6 RPG. I felt like I was back in my old gaming group. Original characters, great battle scenes, and for once someone was not trying to remake one of the earlier films.

The best part for me was seeing Blue Squadron in action. I would have thought they would have had Z-95s like the FFG game, but was pleased none the less.

Captain Gideon17 Dec 2016 8:42 a.m. PST

Saw the film yesterday and really enjoyed it I found nothing wrong with the film except the appearance by a certain Gold Plated Droid but that's me and was surprised with some things but I'll leave it at that.

Saw it today and really liked it. Not perfect, but very well done and enjoyable. Felt like the good old days again!
What they can do with CGI and PEOPLE now is amazing.

Dynaman878918 Dec 2016 3:32 p.m. PST

I liked it but I have to wonder about the Empire's lack of security – and they don't seem to have any clue about things like sensors or Combat Air patrol.

Rogue One also ties up several unanswered questions from Episode IV. Like WHY the plans in R2-D2 were so important? I mean a technical read-out of the Death Star would be useful, but what are the chances that there is some 'hit-it-here-to-destroy' vulnerability? Rogue One explains how they knew about the vulnerability beforehand and just needed the plans to discover exactly where it was.

OTOH, stormtrooper armor, yet again, proves to be totally useless. Just whack it with a stick! :)

Dynaman878919 Dec 2016 5:20 a.m. PST

> OTOH, stormtrooper armor, yet again, proves to be totally useless. Just whack it with a stick! :)

True true, but the one stormtrooper still seemed to be alive after multiple hits – the one that the stick wielding guy was using as a shield.

Mithmee20 Dec 2016 6:36 p.m. PST

Well at least everyone was better shots in this one to include the Stormtroopers.

But the movie was very good and had no silly characters, like;

Ewoks
Jar Jar Binks
Young annoying kid

Captain Gideon20 Dec 2016 6:58 p.m. PST

Too bad the Gold Plated droid showed up but you can't get everything you want.

Huscarle21 Dec 2016 7:22 a.m. PST

Just got back from the flicks, and this is probably my favourite film of the franchise; just pushing The Empire Strikes Back, back a little.
A much better film than last year's offering of The Force Awakens. I'm now wondering what the other 2 rumoured SW offshoots will be?

Ghostrunner21 Dec 2016 10:21 a.m. PST

Han Solo's early life (confirmed)

And maybe a Boba Fett movie

Mako1123 Dec 2016 1:00 a.m. PST

TFA sucked bigtime.

The predictable, ultra-PC remake of Episode IV, with less originality, charm, or action during most of it.

The new lightsabre wasn't enough to make me interested in it.

chromedog23 Dec 2016 4:06 p.m. PST

It wasn't just a stick.

It was a weapon (it's the same stick as part of his majik laser crossbow gun later). It's just capable of impact (CC) discharge as well as ranged shots.
