If you're a fan of the programme that was set on board a Leander class frigate you probably know series 1 & 2 are already out on dvd. I had a reply today from SimplyMedia; they are planning to release series 3 in April next year, and series 4 in September. |

Was totally unaware of it. I've seen most of the Australian "Sea Patrol," which was informative about rhe problems Australia faces in securing it's territorial waters and exclusive economic zone. Fighting overfishing, dealing with humanitarian crises, etc. The series got very formulaic and the plots got stupid, but it was a noble effort. Will definitely look into Warship. Let's see, there was the short-lived "Supercarrier," I believe. Only saw the first episode. I haven't seen "The Last Ship." Any reviews? Series that I missed? |

I was mad on 1970s Royal Naval ships at the time and watched the programme avidly. I remember I liked the captain quite a lot. I think I will try to watch it again. There were some fine ships. Only wish I had waterlined my Airfix ones and got into battle. |

I only lasted a few episodes into Sea Patrol… My childhood memories tell me that Patrol Boat, from the late 70s and early 80s (and inspired by the slightly earlier Warship), was a much better show. YouTube link |

I've enjoyed three seasons of The Last Ship. An apocalyptic scenario, the USS Nathan James appears to be indestructible, and the number of times the captain is involved in boarding actions makes this the pulpiest of the shows discussed. For submarine action see Last Resort (pretty good, but only 1 season and if you're a Brooklyn-Nine-Nine fan you may find Andre Braugher difficult to accept as the captain). |
