In 15mm, I have 3 line figures per 1" base

and a pair for skirmishers

If I was to redo this in 6mm I'd use your scheme.

Following feedback on my blog, I decided to go with 30mm square bases which allow me to accommodate ranks of five. To me, these look so much better than fours.
